which side.....axles help!

Im installing my Gforce outlaw axles due to a broken drivers side axle. The previous axles were the gforce 1000hp and one finally gave out.

Anyway, i got the drivers side out, leaving in the stubs and thought it should just swap in. Gforce labeled the axles pass side and drivers side but the one labeled drivers side is too damn long. I have to remove the trailing arm outer bolt and that bolt wont come out due to it hitting the lower control arm.

So my question, which side is actually the short side?

ETA: nevermind. I removed the upper control arm bolt and the toe rod bolt and tilted the spindle down and slid it in that way.....duh!

I didn't notice mine were different lengths at first...

After I noticed, I measured each axle and then measured the space between the inner and outer hubs (they were different lengths). The shorter axle went with the shortest distance and the longer axle in the longer distance. My axles weren't labeled.

They appear to have identical amounts of lateral travel.

Yep, the shorter axle goes on the passenger side, the longer goes on the drivers side. What threw me is i was told since im not replacing the stubs the axles were just plug and play nothing else required.

Not true. I had to remove the outer bolt from the upper control arm and toe rod and tilt the rotors outboard and slip in the axle from the top. I only did the broken(drivers side) then took it out for a spin. good as new. Will probably deal with the other side tomorrow, depending how the back and neck feel. Kinda had plans to blow threw a few hundred rounds out of the suppressed .300blk SBR though. Testing out some new subs.

The only thing I had to do was lower the trailing arm from the hub. They both slipped right in from the bottom. I did have to tighten bolt for each stub from the top. All the rest I could get to from the bottom.

I need to go shooting... I have thousands of rounds just begging to go boom.

I tried that but the bolt from the trailing arm would not come out due to the lower control arm

Bull lives in the middle, lets road trip and make lots of booms, then toss some cold ones back and lie about stuff... Sounds like a plan to me...

Yep, got your email but i figured it out. I only replaced the broken axle and have been driving like that. Ill get to the other axle soon and will use mep gas on the bolts this time to melt the red loctite. I removed 6 of those loctited bolts with a standard 6" allen wrench believe it or not and no heat. It was a pretty good workout! Bought some allen sockets and used a breaker bar for the other 6....much easier btw. The other side should go much easier

Thanks for the Outlaws! They are impressive. I plan to degrease the broken one and examine the shear closer. It was definitely a torsion failure, high cycle fatigue failure IMHO. I beat the hell out of these 1000hp axles the last 16000+ miles.
