Ever been ask to buy someone car?

Random Question that I thought about today for us Camaro owners.

After I got my first Camaro (a 2011 1LS), more co-workers or acquaintances have asked me, either in a joking or non-joking manner, to buy them a car because "You have so much money man" because I "have such an expensive Camaro". Mind you I worked at CFA when I got my car, but I've gotten asked this question too many times to make it funny. The other question they would ask is if I could GIVE them mine when I upgrade (you can be assured I let them FIRMLY know that they can #$%^ off).

Since most people see Camaros or other sports cars as "expensive, high roller" cars, has anyone asked you to buy them something or a car just like it?

No but I have had some ask me to give them my car. My response was sure no problem, give me 8k in cash and go get a loan for 30k and its yours.

Needless to say I still have my car.

Maybe for a brand new one these things are expensive... depending on the trim.

But you can buy a 2SS/RS (used) for under $25k without much looking.

Nah... most people I know would know how much these cars cost...

I did have some random guy come up to me at the self-serve car wash a few months ago asking me to trade my ride for his older Mercedes... unfortunately, I couldn't stop from laughing and the conversation ended shortly after that...

When I first got the car, they were hard to find and it was not unusual to hear someone pay 45k for a 2SS, which were about the only V8s you could find at the time. Even a V6 RS was 30k. From there I think people assumed all Camaros cost a lot. I have not had any comments related to that for a couple years or so.

Any newer Camaro is an "expensive, high roller" car when you work for just slightly above minimum wage at Chick-Fil-A. Especially if you have other living expenses besides a car. That's probably why they ask.

Either way, asking that question to someone is more about class than it is income.

My wife drives a Hummer H3 and we always have to fight the stereotype that we have money. I paid $16k for the truck. While that is a fair amount of money, it's not exactly expensive.

I guess people don't realize car depreciate pretty quickly, especially certain types. I imagine the depreciate on any hummer is pretty steep.

If you look at used high end Mercedes or BMWs, you can get those things for a steal compared to what they cost new.

100K dollar cars you can buy for 20k maybe 8 years later, if not less.

Like said above, I paid right about 25k for my 2010 2SS non RS with 29k miles on it in September of 2013 I think it was. Now it's retail value is around 22-23k I think. That's pretty affordable in my book, no way I would pay nearly 50k for a new SS though, it's not that nice of a car. You're getting close to Corvette money at that point or ZL1, and the performance different is pretty big. That is of course if that's what you're interested in that kind of thing.

I was super surprised when my aunt gave me an earful for buying an "expensive" car. I then politely and factually explained to her that her AWD Traverse LTZ cost $15,000 more than my car. She was dumbfounded. I haven't heard so much backpedaling in a long time.

Yup same here I have one person at work who gives me a hard time about it everyday, and not even joking this is an actual hater. He says I'm wasting gas and money and there's much better things I could have done. He drives a BRAND NEW toyota sequoia and gets worse mileage. People don't understand the concept of perception Vs. reality.

I should mention he makes probably about a third of what I make so that means "thank you mommy and daddy".
