I personally don't mind any car outselling the Camaro. Makes mine even that much more special when I drive by.

Exactly! I'd rather have one of a few hundred than one of a few hundred thousand. Notice how Dodge does it though. Low production, low sales, high price. As a customer reward though, at least their cars are heavier and in many cases slower, so thanks Dodge!

Why does it matter how many Mustangs sold in 2 years vs. Corvettes in 40 years? They are not really fighting each other in the same market. Wouldn't it be baffling if the Corvettes sold like the Mustangs did considering the price difference? I mean I could see how the sales difference would mean something if Corvettes were offered ranging from $25,000 V6s to $55,000 Supercharged V8s, so how exactly does a group of people considering Mustangs buy Corvettes and vice-versa? Also, regarding whether the Camaro will sell 8812 units in May of whatever year, the comparison is kind of ridiculous. So what does it mean if at the end of it's model life the Camaro doesn't sell as well as the Mustang did in May of 2009? Diddly squat? I mean, maybe if the Camaro was dominating a market unchallenged for years and some new rival car had supposedly started delivery in some April, then whether the Camaro sold 8812 units in that May can serve as a relevant comparison, still not considering the difference in economy or the change in market and whatnot. Most Camaro owners don't look too much into the sales competition as Mustangs vs Camaros. They are just happy that there is a healthy competition of what seems like neck and neck sales monthly with the overall yearly figures favoring the Camaro by a bit. It wouldn't mean much if it was the other way around. I really don't see the point of pulling marketing figures and theory in an effort to somehow put the Mustang above the Camaro in sales. The Mustang had it's hay-day for a long time and now it's got a rival selling at least as much every year. Doesn't mean the Mustang is dead or going away. Just not the king of the segment sales, which to be frank, shouldn't matter much to the guy who loves his car anyway. What I think is interesting is the fact that the latest generation Mustangs are superior to the Camaros, stock-performance-wise. The Camaros surely aren't selling better because they perform better from the factory. So whatever other edge the Camaro has over the Mustang must be outweighing the stock performance difference as far as the general consumer is concerned. And I think it's the design and look of the car. |

Owning SSes for 50 Years

Isn't the three year period normal trade in time for most performance car drivers? If so, I have seen plenty 5th gen Camaro guys going for 5.0s and 392 Challengers. Maybe the new has worn off. I traded my 2010 SS....but, for another Camaro.

only saw a few for the ZL1 before they were even out...and honestly, I've never seen a Mustang commercial, either...lol
I sort of think there are so many car/performance related TV shows around, that they kind of do the advertising, to the "enthusiasts" anyways... |

No incentive for us 2010 guys to trade up, I'm sure thats a big part of it.
No real changes since 2010, not even a HP bump. ZL-1 is a pretty big failure. -Bobby

I've seen like 5 articles saying how the mustang "pounded" the camaro in May, but Camaros been selling more for just about the past 2 years and no one says anything... All the car enthusiast sites are mustang fanboys...

Obviously, the enthusiasts are a small crowd compared the general consumer. And better bargains and more incentives pull in more Ford buyers, especially in the V6/fuel economy division. Would be nice to see a breakdown in sales @ the various levels.
