Cleaning Your Engine - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I searched the forums and had no luck but what is your process for cleaning your engine compartment and engine?

Back in the day, I used some Simple Green, let it soak a few minutes and gently rinse off. Would you recommend this or not? What do you suggest?

Simple green on all my engines. Run it for awhile to heat up the grease, turn it off spray simple green all over and rinse off. Try not to spray to green or the water when rinsing on the paint. It won't harm it but it will remove your wax too.

What about for those of us who leave the engine cover off? Same procedure?

I've always used a brand of hand cleaner called 'Goop' for that, even when I was putting my classic car in shows. It wouldn't take the printing off my reproduction labels and stickers under the hood- but that doesn't mean you can slather it on and not remove the entire label, lol

It takes a couple hours but it came out looking like I'd just painted the engine and bucket again

Depending on what you have done under the hood, you may not be able to use certain cleaning products. I have coated LTs and the coating vendor said not to use any citrus based products, Simple Green, Purple Power, etc. Just something to consider.

I use a damp rag occasionally.
Otherwise I just wipe it with my micro fiber towel.
3 years later and 15k miles my engine department still looks like brand new.

I rinse my engine compartment regularly with simple low pressure water. It keeps the dust at a minimum and prevents any build up of grease/oil. I keep the engine cover off too. Just try not to use direct water for a long time on the ignition coils, fuse box, etc.

You would be surprised how nasty our rains and sand storms are.
The dust is a RPITB.
Putting water in your engine bay is just wild.

What's about with no engine cover? Coil pack and everything are exposed. Any issues as long as its not direct pressure?
