What is needed to put the LS7 in your Camaro?
So instead of waiting for the Z28 to come out, is anyone planning on just throwing a LS7 into there Camaro and making there own. Although yeah i heard that the Z28 would be getting the LS9, but i still havn't been able to find the price for one of those.
What i am wanting to know is does anyone know how much work will have to be done to the Camaro's driveline in order to handle the LS7. If any work will need to be done, although i think it will. The LS9 is a 6.2L, so is it really just the LS3 with that supercharger strapped onto it? My uncle bought the SRT8 Chally, so i was really hopping to kick his ass stock for stock, then he took it to hennesy. So i need an upgrade.

Sure it can be done, you can buy the LS7 as a crate motor.
But really if you are looking to upgrade then put a magnuson on the LS3 and have it tuned for it and you will have plenty of HP!

I am thinking about taking it to Lingenfelter. It would be nice if i just didn't put any miles on the LS3 and they would keep it and take alittle off the price for the upgrade.

I saw the 2010 LS7 Concept up at the SEMA show, so I believe you could order the LS& crate motor, swap it out but don't forget to get the programing done!

Camaro Scotty addressed this some time ago. He gave a complete quote for the job parts & labor done deal from his dealership.
Also, Jamie Meyer (DRGMPP) head of GM Performance Parts said they would be offering a complete pkg including tuning for the "do it yourself-er". It would include everything you need to do the swap. Be fore warned ... it aint gonna be cheap. I think you'll find that for the same money to do an LS7 swap, you can make the car a boat load faster for less money if you do a little research. Header, Cam & Intake pkgs for the NA side and Maggies or Pro-Chargers for the FI guys will be less than an LS7 and make considerably more power. (or a combo of both for the die hards) I built my own 427 and it will be going in the day after I bring the car home so I understand your train of thought all too well |

the LS3 is such a great motor.. I have to say spending the money for an LS7 install and swap would be a mistake..
If you gotta have an LS7 then just buy a preowned Z06 with low mileage for 45 grand... The LS3 in my C6 is a great motor and has more than enough power... and if I needed more? I'd just slap a supercharger on it.. (but really the car is great just the way it comes from the factory) keep it stock and enjoy the 5 year 100k warranty... JMO

Swapping the two Gen IV motors turned out to be a fairly easy process given the large amount of common components and overall compatibility.
