Camaro SS Automatic (13.2 @ 109 mph)?

I was surfing the net and found this over in a WRX forum (I used to own an STi).

Yesterday while shopping for a new Camaro I was told by someone who has a connection with Chevrolet headquarters that the 2010 Camaro SS has an official 1/4-mile time of 13.2 seconds @ 109 mph. This is not surprising; what is surprising is this time was clocked on the automatic version using the variable cylinder management engine. The Camaro with the 422 hp 6-speed manual is supposed to be a tick or two slower than the less-powerful V8 automatic.

Is this old news? Did anyone else hear this "official 1/4 mile time" for the A6 Automatic?

It will always boil down to the driver..... Look for better numbers than this.

For an example.......

GM said with the GM stage 2 my Cobalt SS would do a best of 14.1 in the quarter mile. I've ran high 13's with 13.8 being my best multiple times.

Yeah, I know.

But GM does testing and does comes up with peformance number for their cars. They use these "official times" in some of their advertisements and brochures.

I would bet they will settle for nothing higher than 13.0. Look how our HP went from 422 to 426. This is purely speculation. This car can mathematically run high 12's.

Yeah, the 109 mph trap speed is nice. That's easy high 12s with a better launch.
I ran 12.9 @ 110mph in my GTO having horrible traction issues. With some drag radials I could have pulled 12.6s - 12.7s easy.

What? makes no sense that it was suprising because of active fuel mgmt?

You do know that it runs on all 8 when you pull a quarter? That system is for traffic jams not general movement.

no... actually this auto has been proven faster a few times in some 'unofficial' tests

the issue ain't about how much power difference there is between the engines; it's about the transmissions. that 6L80 is a heck of a stock performer... not to say the TR6060 ain't, but i think it'll be more of a drivers' race in the end.

for drags, i think the auto will win out in the camaro, but in road courses, the stick will be the better one

Actually, its for highway cruising. At low speeds it still uses all 8.

Nothing has been proven in a head to head comparison between the 2 cars that any of us has actually seen. Its been said that the auto will be faster, then that that was a mistake and the manual is actually faster, and back again to auto is faster.

I never had any wheel hop issues with my 06 A4 (automatic) GTO. There's something about the Automatic that makes it a lot easier to get off the line without wheel hop. It always got off the line pretty smooth. But with my street tires, I got lots of wheel spin.

Now my 05 M6 (stick) GTO, had terrible wheel hop issues. But drag radials reduced the wheel hop quite a bit. But my first trip to the track (bone stock), I had such terrible wheel hop I had to leave the Traction Control on just to get off the line without a lot of hop. The wheel hop was real bad.

If the 2011 Camaro SS gets optional 3.73 gears, I place my bets on the manuel.
