i have a hard time believing that the g8 will be faster than the camaro or even close to it. it would be like if they made the camaro better than the vette , not going to happen

The G8 GXP only gets 20mpg highway and is rewarded with a GG tax for it. Yeah, there's a rebate, but who is to say the Camaro won't get a rebate in a year. I'll take the Camaro with its 24 or 25mpg with almost exact performance. As you add power whether through bolt on or forced inductions, those 3.73 gears might give you trouble off the line in the form of tire smoke.
I should mention that I really like the GXP, just too much money and I wanted better gas mileage.

IMO, that GXP is friggin' cool! If there were no Camaro, that'd the the first car in line for me to get (well, a CTS-V; but that's too much $$$). I'm sure Camaro times will be dropping a tenth or two when the rags' start reviewing in weather with a little better traction because although the cold is good for power, it ain't good for hookin'. I think the power and weight differences aren't going to mean too much in terms of raw speed, but the handling is where the spread is going to be a little greater.
Either way, Camaro is based on the same chassis, has similar engine/drivetrains, and weight and harbor no disappointment at all. They're great improvements on top of the older generation cars, IMVHO.

What I'm wondering is if I can take it up to the shop and "under warranty" swap the gearing on the rear end in '11 for a factory 3.73. It should just be a matter of pulling one transfer case and plugging the new one in.
I think GM should try something like this too. Do a "Factory recall" on the 3:42s they have now as a "production error" and make all the '10s eat some '11 Mustangs like their younger Camaro brethren will be doing. |

It's my opinion that won't be possible... They'd replace a warranty part with the exact same replacement, unless it was discontinued. Broken 3.42s equal replacement 3.42s. That would be cool though

Car and Driver reported 0-60 in 4.7 sec for the G8 GXP.
That's the exact same as reported for the Camaro in many reviews. Same exact engine - same exact platform - the numbers are almost exactly the same. (I realize weight is diff but so is gearing)... To me it's a wash!! Oh and the Camaro LOOKS about a BILLION times better than any G8 ever could... |

i'm not dissapointed with the camaro's numbers at all, i'm just a little bothered that the GXP guys are faster. but it's still a drivers race and i'm sure a few bolt ons can fix this.
i'm happy that i'm waiting until 2011. we not only get more color options, ABL, and better pricing, but we might get a faster SS. |
