Did you measure your wire/tire thickness? Was that on the 17" or your 16" (screws)? I remember you said you had some thicker wheels from Bogart. I can't see how the tip og the screw going all the way through the tire wouldn't pop the tube, yours must not have gone through.

Even on a regular Bogart my tubes never leaked. Tire screw with no tubes started to leak as soon as I went down to 16 psi. This happened overnight. It wasn't quick. |

I am thinking of doing 1/8"+ of washers with mine so it won't go completely through the wheel/tire combo. I miced .625 thickness for my wheel/tire combo so I am going to do .600 ish worth of screw.

I'll check closer... almost positive the outside of the rim looked good as I spun it, but it could be an inside edge problem. My Weld rims seem to be tougher than the previous Bogarts and closer tolerances, plus I install them at the track.... so no road damage possible unless a LCA came in contact with the rim.
I had a good burnout and was staged forever while my competition took his sweet time on 1 pass, so maybe just one side of the tire cooled off and distorted it? I'll have to throw it on a balancer and check the runout #s closer and maybe call Hoosier afterwards if nothing points to the rim.

You can always grind the screws down a little so they don't poke through the tire bead. Just recently did this on a friends Chevelle.

Well if you grind a 1/4" off then you have no tip, hows the screw start itself in the tire?

I have looked for 1/2" screws...none for the application, but I am not sure you need grade 8, there shouldn't be much load on them, the air pressure holds the bead for the most part. But its not easy to find 1/2" long screws either that have a nice coarse thread and will work.
