I think the automatic is the wholething ..we want it and gotta have it,for me personaly I'll be going turbo, and prefer to be consistent only with the automatic,so we'll make it work,I'm very optimistic

There's a 12 cubic inch difference. The L99 has the cam phaser as well as AFM. I'm not sure, but I think the L99 gets the sodium filled intake valves like the LS3. The L76 has the same heads as the L99 and the LS3, but gets solid intake valves.

The intakes and throttle bodies are the same. The LS3 gets a forged crank, the L76 is cast, I'm not sure about the L99.
None of them use a forged crank. Infact the Camaro LS3 isn't the same part# as the 2009 Vette crank. Camaro LS3 is a 12584997, L99 is a 12588612, and the Vette crank is 12597569(also twice the price of the other two?).

George pretty much covered everything that needs to be changed to get rid of the AFM in the L99, assumming that it will be exactly the same as it is in the G8. We currently sell cam packages that delete everything and come with a cam and upgraded valvetrain components as well for the G8, see the upcoming September issue of GM High Tech Performance magazine as one of our custom kits gets tested in a G8GT.
The VVT is going to have an advantage over the engine without it, once the modding starts in my opinion, you can put a pretty big cam in it and by adjusting the cam timing, gain 30-50 lbs of torque down low and make it peaky up top making the lower end of the rpm band pretty much respond like it has a different cam in it. That is why I ordered an automatic, plus we need a test car of course to develop camshaft profiles for this VVT function.

Yup, all cast iron.

The disable switch for the AFM is that pedal under your right foot. I have AFM on my Suburban and the readout on the info center. The only time it is in V4 mode is with absolutely no/zero load on it. If it does manage to go into V4 mode as soon as I put any pressure on the gas pedal it immediately switches to V8.

why do you want to delete it?
i mean the 1/4 and 0-60 is even with a ls3.
im sure the ls3 would pull away after a 1/4 but probably not by much.

0-60 is even, the LS3 has a couple tenths and a couple mph in the 1/4.

No, they get a variant thats equipped with active fuel management. Estimated gains are about 2-3 mpg (highway) with AFM from what it would otherwise have been.

From what we know right now, it is the L99 engine, which is basically an LS3 with a smaller camshaft profile, AFM/DOD which has 8 of the 16 lifters being different along with a different valley cover that can turn your V8 into a 4 cylinder at certain engine speeds/loads to get better fuel economy, it also has VVT which is Variable Valve Timing, which changes the camshaft position by advancing or retarding the Camshaft timing, this is what is going to be interesting when it comes to tuning. I also heard that the exhaust is more restricitive. As far as I know, those are the only differences between the L99 and LS3, correct me if I am wrong.

I know the L76 also has different valves (solid vs. hollow stem), which the L99 MIGHT have as well.
