$10,000 Car wash???
A $10,000 Exotic Car Wash… Fact or Fiction?
RideLust picked up on an interesting story recently, featuring an elite detailer who charges up and beyond $10,000 US for a proper clean and wax. The author of this post was a bit skeptical… What do you think, is it possible? (more after the jump) Well, let’s look at the facts. We live in a society where the standard issue bikini will cost you around $69, give or take, but you can also spend as much as $30 million, as was a 150-Karat diamond bikini which appeared in the 2006 issue of Sports Illustrated. You can spend a couple bucks for a Big Mac here in the States, or you can travel to Iceland where one will cost in excess of $7.50. Your standard box o’ wine will set most folks back $5 or $6 bucks, but you can also choose to buy a commercial bottle of Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne (1787) for $64,000. And if you think this stuff is drinkable, you’d probably get more enjoyment out of a glass of lighter fluid. And alas, we come to the $10,000 car wash. There are only a few guys in the world who offer such an expensive service, such as Paul Dalton of Surrey, England. Each high class treatment really can take up to two weeks, including 50-phases of washing and contaminant stripping, before the final hand rubbed coat of limited edition Brazilian white carnauba wax. Such a wax comes in its own crystal case, featuring a certificate of authenticity and hand engraved ownership plaque (owner’s name and its own serial number). While I couldn’t find any for $12,000 US as the video above suggests, I do know Swissvax offers a “Devine” package, for just under $3,000 US, so it’s certainly possible. Paul has been offering exotic detailing since 2002. Check out his own elite treatment: For the price of $7,800 (which is on sale compared to that other guy), Paul will even run out to your house on a Sunday afternoon just to clean a dollop of bird sh** off your hood. Now that’s service! Its Paul Dalton dude... He even has a swissvax named after him "Paul Dalton Crystal Rock" for a mere $1265.00. He's a high end detailer, with high end clients - I'd charge 10K for a detail job too if my cliental could afford it.

Paul is an amazing detailer... is his work worth the amount he charges? IMO, absolutely not, but hes marketing a service to an elite client base and they are willing to pay for exclusivity. Its something to chuckle about with your polo buddies as you eat caviar on the deck of your yacht. He uses very high end products, and very skilled application, and some outlandish processes... but not enough to actually justify a $10k price tag.
In the end hes a guy who found a niche and is taking advantage of it, more power to him... what an excellent marketing gimmick. I wish I had thought of it. |

3-4k for inside out isn't unheard of... i see that on a daily basis and know some of those detailers get booked a month ahead. for TRUE paint correction, it takes up 2-3 days easily... not sure about 10k

Hell, I ask 2K for the outside only. Plus, I want 3 weeks to finish it. Then, I'm way too lazy to work that hard so somebody is going to have to compensate me!
