I am sorry boys and girls, but if Lupe says the paint is garbage, it is!! Why wouldn't they make this thing out of aluminum anyway...for $1100 I would think it would be and it would be lighter. Since they are steel, they should be powedercoated for that price anyway!

Guys, this is the 2nd product I heard that was bought through Phastek that ended up with an issue. I bought a rear spoiler from them that wouldn't fit my 2011 Camaro. Had to supply photo's from the body shop to prove the point, but after 2 months of going round and round with them they finally took it back, confirmed the issue and gave me a complete refund. I also have the same DJ grille (bought mine from someone else 2 years ago and it still looks perfect) and it's my understanding it's aluminum with shouldn't rust. My 2 cents, the pictures indicate to me the prep work on the grille that preceeded the paint could be the root cause. I own a test lab one of the tests I run is the evaluation of plating systems for the electronic industry and I have seen conditions similar to that on copper based electronic products and when that has occured it was the prep of the base metal that caused the issue. I understand the grille is not copper, but the failure mode is very similar. I read a thread indicating conterfit products out there and this may be case as my DJ Phantom Grille appears to look "a little" different. Regardless, stay relentless with Phastek. They came around for me and hopefully will do the same for you. Good luck.

My car is garaged 24-7, hand washed, I live in California so there's no snow or salt. I've had mine for exactly one year. Mine was bought through carid and I was in communication with DJ Grilles the entire month it took for me to get my grille. I even had to send it right back to them the day I first opened it because of some bad welds. Just yesterday I noticed my grilles finish peeling. I just can't believe that after only a year this is happening. Has anyone with this issue had any success getting it fixed?

Wow , I'm glad I ran across this thread. I just got my refund after waiting for 2 years for the ******* grill. I was seriously considering buying this grill. Now I will wait to see how this turns out before I commit to buy.

For an outrageously priced product, you should have a great paint job, at the least u should have decent customer service, they need to stop pointing fingers at the customer and make it right.

I have the Phantom. The part that sucks is that I can't just go back to the stock or any other grille for that matter. I would have to buy a whole new facia. I would also lose out on my T3 ports too, can't take those out and put them in a new bumper. I just can't believe after only 1 year exactly it's falling apart.

I can understand products having issues, especially a custom and not a mass produced item, but when they dont stand behind it, the company is a joke and I would tell everyone to avoid them. They are trying to save a $20 by replacing it, and now they have lost a huge amount of customers and counting since it will be here for any and all camaro owners to read.

So here is my DJ Grilles Phantom Hidden Headlight unit for my '11:
Rust is clearly visible on mine as well. Bought these December 2011, installed January 2012. I have done nothing to them- no cleaning, nothing. I live in NJ, but not near any body of water. Yes the car sits outside, but having spent over $800 for this, I would think a few years enjoyment should be expected. I just took these photos and just sent DJ Grilles an email with the photos attached. Based on what I'm reading in this thread, I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best. |
