Warranty WORK denied by Pontiac dealership

I have been informed by my Pontiac dealer who has done all my service for 25+ years that they CAN NOT work on the 2010 CAMARO.

Told must take it to a CHEVROLET line dealer.

I have not been to my local Chevy dealer for decades. They charged me for what was to be covered under warranty years ago and the Pontiac dealer got my money back.

Next closest is 55 miles away.

BS ask him who will work on a pontiac in a year once he is gone GM covers GM and the issue here is some extra hoops for him. Sounds bitter with the axe to pontiac. I know they will "Highly" recommend a chevy dealer to work on such a new car but seriously who is really an expert camaro 5th gen serviceman at this point!

doesn't surprise me- audi and vw are essentially interchangeable- audi will complete all the scheduled service on my jetta (the techs are better & more courteous), but if I have a warranty item, I have to go to VW...

I called GM & Got an approval code for work about 6-8 months ago at my Pontiac dealership with 2 Chevy dealerships in town. Call them and explain and they may be able to set you up. I'm not saying they will for sure on the 2010 Camaro, I got approval for a 2004 Cavalier. Worth a 5 miute call to try 1-866-790-5700. Good Luck!

That sounds fishy...they should be able to service the Camaro...

Unless the WHOLE service dept. is shut down completely due to an approaching shutdown.

Sucks to live in the boonies, huh

I got a Chevy dealer on every other corner.

No.. like all my others Chevy's since 1977 I bought it out of town.

Service MANAGER IS GREAT GUY...

Chevrolet will not allow him to work on a 2010 CAMARO . Nothing to do with the Pontiac letter, they do all my warranty on my Silverado.

Pontiac can do normal customer pay service on the Camaro. Warrenty work is another issue though, for that it needs to go to a Chevrolet dealer. I used to work at a Pontiac dealer and we could only write warrenty work orders on Pontiacs even though any GM dealer can order and install parts for all GM cars. This is one area where Ford has it right.

You have a chevy not a pontiac. After 3 years and if your on gmpp you can go to any gm dealer. Besides who is going to know more about the car a tech who has never seen a camaro or a chevy tech.

Actually, the Pontiac dealer cannot work on the car. The Camaro, and the new Equinox require a tool that Pontiac dealers do not have and will not be buying seeing as they are closing down. It is a computer system that is going to replace the tech 2 machine that they currently use. It costs a dealer over $1,000 per machine. Needless to say, Pontiac dealers aren't going to dish out $1,000 for a machine that they don't need to work on their cars. Chevrolet stores on the other hand will already have this machine and therefore can perform service on your Camaro.

Before you guys start bashing, either do some research or don't post. This site is meant to be informative and helpful and most of posts above mine are nothing but mindless banter.

^No, not BS...they are unable to connect to the cars computer system. As far as being an expert, most dealerships have seen/touched 10+ Camaros already and have reviewed the schematics and such as well as taken IDL classes on the new computer systems used in the Camaro and 2010 Equinox. You'd probably be surprised how many "experts" are really out there.

No disrespect to anyone , but lets try to keep this informative and helpful. Shooting from the hip is getting old.

The only "special tool" needed for diagnostics of these newer vehicles (listed below) is the GM MDI (Multiple Diagnostic Interface)($999.95). which was introduced in the fall of 2007 for pass-thru programming.

The new system is called the GDS (Global Diagnostic Systems)
GDS is required for diagnostics on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Equinox, Cadillac SRX, Buick LaCrosse/Allure, and GMC Terrain. It is not a "tool" that needs to be purchased it is a computer program that interfaces with the MDI.

Any dealership claiming they "can't" work on it because they don't have a diagnostics tool (MDI released in 2007) Is not a dealer that would ever see me in their doorway. Technology going into vehicles now'a'days far surpasses anything in the past. Any dealer not keeping up with the times is not someone that I would feel qualifies to work on any newer vehicle.

That is retarded, but my best friend works at a Pontiac dealership, and works on any GM.

As a matter of fact that is where my Cobalt goes.
