The 6th gen is a different car. The ZL1 will never dethrone the Hellcat as old school brutal muscle car. The ZL1 is more of a next gen sports car. I expect the ZL1 to be faster and handle better but if you are buying a Hellcat You are buying it for old school muscle car fun and that it is. The best way I can compare the hell cat and Scat pack is Scat pack is like ordering the AAR cuda in 1970 and Hell cat was like ordering the 426 Hemi cuda. The hemi cuda never handled well too much front weight same is true with Hellcat. Dodge over engineered the motor adding a bunch of weight. Not sayng Scat pack initially is super light but the 300 extra pounds teh hell cat weighs up front makes a difference in handling.

By dethrone I'm saying the ZL1 could very well have the Cat in the quarter. Better launch control and a good driver could put the Cat on the trailer. It will be interesting to see some heads up racing once the Z hits the streets though we may have to wait till next spring here as the car is due to arrive in the fall. Anybody in FL wanna beat a Cat and upload a video? Inquiring minds want to know. Last edited by Heavymetal454; 05-26-2016 at 05:04 PM. |

At this point the performance of the ZL1 is no more than speculation. Saw a HC with sticky tires and a 3.08 gear run a 6.96@101 last night. The car ran a 6.91 last week and it's fairly consistent depending on inlet temps. The blowers get fairy hot so lapping the track has an effect.
I've seen a few new Camaro SS cars run and they are in the typical 7.80-7.90 range depending of course on the driver. That isn't bad because it equates to a 12.30 ish 1/4 mile. Not bad for an economy car. Lol The ZL1 Camaro "should" deliver but that will be where the men and the boys are separated by their driving skills. The power vs weight looks good on paper. |

That's not the stock gear. It's lower numerically. Must have swapped for the 392 gearing.

The original gear was a 2. something gear which is taller than his 3.08 gear. Yes it's an auto 8 spd. I made a comment earlier about the ZL1 being speculation which what I should have states is that it's to be determined performance is speculation. I know there is more often than not an internet performance number and then there is reality and the two don't often match up on the dragstrip. I don't favor circle racing because you usually don't get anywhere going in circles.

Stock HC A8 is 2.62 gears I installed 3.09 in my HC and improved the 60ft and .2 tenths on the big end. My best 60ft was 1.49 with the 3.09 but did loose freeway gas mileage.

Ok, 3.09. I was close. Just lower your driving rpm and your mileage should come back.

ZL1 will most likely destroy the Hellcat in everything performance wise. How did the Z06 do against the Hellcat?

What I think is strange is that I rarely see any 2016 Camaros
at the dragstrip and when they are there there are pitiful in performance. I just do not understand what the heck is wrong here. I've seen 1 2016 run high 7 second 1/8th mile but the rest are pitiful. I hope those who are able to get their hands on the coming ZL1 can get to the track and be as impressive as are the Hellcats. |
