Real GM Bandit Fender vents installed!

Of course I wanted to try something different

So I scored these original 1978 Trans Am fender vents off E-Bay for $20.00.

I then made a 18ga. sheet metal buck the same curvature as the Camaro fender.I spent several hours with a dremel creating a lip to cover the edge of the cut out and following the fender contour. Also epoxied a Hex type mesh to the inside to mimic the Hood Hex Vents.

Then my buddy down at the local dealer painted them for me.

My wife then gave me that look when I was about to cut holes in my Fenders like I was a crazy man...

Anyway I like them and think they look kinda cool.My GM blade spoiler is on the way and will add to the look...what do you guys think?

Well me being in my 50's, I have always loved the late 70's Trans Ams.

Honestly though when I first installed them I wasn't so sure I did the rite thing .

But now that their done and the more I look at it I think it blends fairly well with the the Camaro's lines, mainly the mirrors.

They are also functional in aiding engine bay heat escape to a degree.

Plus I don't think it has been done before either with OEM vents, as the Vents on the 5th gen Trans Am body kits are custom cast from fiberglass with a very different shape.

Personally, I think they would have looked better just below the body line in the fender.
'A' for effort though.

With having the hood extracters does it put out alot of the heat from the engine bay. BTW looks great!

Not really a lot.The air finds its way out through where the hood hinges are.
The Hines Hex Vents extracts most all the air.

Not quite as functional as on the 70's Trans Am because they actually had a hole on the inner fender panel.

No way to really do that on a 5th gen with the strut towers, etc. so mostly for looks but with a little benefit.

That's cool-pun intended-Seems as that would be very warm in the summer with the window down, seeing as how much heat these engines give off with all their engine compartment insulation.
