400$ a month in gas? That's a second car payment. Get you a daily and stick the ss in the garage. I spend 60$ a month in gas this way.

I paid 9,000 cash for a 09 honda with 50K mileage. I'm averaging 36.2 mpg. That's way under 400 a month if you financed including gas. I honestly think buying a daily will save you money and keep the value of your camaro. You can never go wrong with an economy car. Tires are cheap, gas tanks are smaller , parts are cheap.

I'm still not getting how you are spending $20/day on a 20 minute drive to work and 20 minute drive back. Lets just say for kicks here that it is a 20 mile journey to work. (I'm sure it's not if its only a 20 minute drive). So total of 40 miles/day. 40 miles/15 mpg (hwy mpg should be more) = 2.7 gallons of gas/day. So 2.7 * $4 = $10.80. So how did you get to spending $20/day on gas again??? BTW, my car is full boltons/cam/heads and I still get 14 mpg driving in the city.

I think he might be averaging in his weekend fun time driving, too.
And buying another car is a less than smart option unless he sells the camaro. I hear a Jetta TDI might work. You buy cars to drive, not hold value. If you find you can't afford to drive it everyday, then sell it. If you can afford 2 cars (payments + ins. plus maint.), then you can afford to drive the 1st one you fell in love with in the beginning. NOT driving a car to maintain value is odd when it comes to a current mass produced vehicle.

It was ninety nine cents!

I pull about 21-24 mpg on the highway, 13-17 in town. OP, there's probably something off with your car if you're burning up 20 dollars worth of gas for that short of a trip.

Yes I had also thought about how much money could save in gas if I bought something like a Cruze, and I could almost make a payment on the Cruze for what I would save in gas money, but then I wouldn't be enjoying driving the ZL1.
If I'm not driving and enjoying the Camaro, why have it???? |

I dont know why he would have to sell the Camaro for this to make sense....Keep the Camaro and get a beater or don't complain about the gas mileage. No one buys a Camaro or an SUV because its good on gas.
A $ 2,000 4 cylinder beater is needed. After about a year the car would actually pay for itself in gas savings. Thankfully I own a 150,000 mile Pontiac Grand Prix that gets decent gas mileage... If I didnt I would have something cheap and efficient to get around with. Keep in mind I do all city driving so it makes sense for me. A camaro SS is not a full time city car. If your spending that much on gas something is wrong with the car or your math is wrong. Good Luck ! |

To each his own.. Personally I love that my camaro sets in the garage 5days a week. Our time on the weekend is that much more valuable that way.
