Car & Driver slams Camaro - 3rd gen

Someone at thirdgen.org posted a gripe about Car & Driver's lack of editorial ability when they slammed the 3rd gen Camaro in more than one article. I'm trying to spread the word that C&D subscriptions should either be canceled and letters of disgust should be emailed to the editor. Here is the content of each:

Quote:
Attention, IROC-Z enthusiasts: the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will not be available with your beloved T-top. If this is hugely disappointing, well, it may finally be time to put on a shirt with a collar, sell your Skynyrd CDs, and scissor the mullet.

In reviving the Camaro, Chevy is doing all it can to make the born-again car remind everyone of the sharp, cleanly styled 1967 original, rather than the more awkward later versions that seemed like accessories to tank-top wear and excesses in facial hair. This writer, the semi-proud owner of a 1995 Z28, knows intimately all the social assumptions that go with late-model Camaro ownership.

Where the entry-level Camaro has been placed—below the V-8s but above lesser-powered V-6s—might seem like a confusing market position, but its true to the Camaro’s social heritage. Like the mullet that is often associated with it, it looks like the V-6 Camaro will walk a fine line between classiness and savagery.

And then there was this on Yahoo Autos:

Quote:
There’s a lot of good to be said about old Camaros: They were available with small-block V-8s, massaged right they handle well, and they’re dirt-cheap. But it’s also true that these cars attract the sort of buyer who saves his greatest loyalty for death metal legends like Slayer, Necrophagia, and Morbid Angel. Vehicle care isn’t a top priority when you have three kids by four different women and a serious meth addiction.

Caution: Beyond the band-loyalty stickers, look out for crumpled parole reports, old visitor’s passes from prominent penal institutions, and abandoned toothless children in the hatchback area. And if it smells like meth, it’s meth.

whocares..The Camaro hype is nothing but good and the dealers are all getting tons of calls.. Now when they tell the customers $5,000 over msrp and they lose them forever..Then perhaps they will single handedly hurt GM..

Yeah, seriously - who cares. It gave me a pretty good laugh. Stereotypes exist for a reason. I know I'll be rockin' out to some thrash the day I get mine.

Meh. Can and Drivel is in my opinion one of the worst (and most biased) car magazines out there. I have my own boycott.

That's one of the most retarded reasons I've ever heard to boycott somebody. I guess some folks have absolutely no sense of humor. I'm tempted to go ahead and renew my subscription to C&D even though it's not due to run out for awhile.

You know it's just a focus on Horsepower vs just the Quality of 2nd and 3rd gen's that where HP gimpped.

To me just punk kids that want 500 hp and whatever on a silver spoon. Because have no respect for the older generation of Camaro's is idiotic because you took what you cold get and there where so many on the road it's just ignorant to worry about putting 1000 hp and making one go 200 mph or else nothing is good enough for the kids nowdays.

Yep. Was a subscriber from 6th grade (1975) to 2007. I even visited their office in Ann Arbor in 1995, cuz I happened to be in town...but that mag has gone completely downhill. Might as well call it "Imported Cars and Bias".

Wow, the responses so far aren't very encouraging. Let's see, we have stupid replies from a Corolla, 2 Rustangs, an S10, an Acura and one 68 Camaro drivers. On a Camaro forum?

I can tell you that I never had a mullet, never lived in a trailer park, never wore a wife-beater and never did meth or any drug for that matter and I've owned and enjoyed 4 third gens. My car is 22 years old and is holding up just fine, so the comments about the care of the cars is off base. The entire Camaro community has this image and a magazine like C&D doesn't need to support that image while many owners are trying to change it. The 3rd gen Camaro was "THE" car to have in the 80's. It was sought after and coveted by everyone, so why the bad publicity?
