Best exhaust?
I realize exhaust choices are based a lot on opinion, but I'm hoping you all can help me decide which one to go with. I would like to get the most bang-for-my-buck. I want a deep, throaty tone that's not so loud that I can't hear my music or wakes the neighbors, but will let people know when I'm getting on it. I'd also like to know which brands/types will produce the most horsepower increase. Also, my SS is an automatic. I would like to keep AFM on, but I need an exhaust that will support that without the drone. I'm leaning towards a Corsa cat-back system, but I'm not so sure I want to drop $1200+ on it... which is why I need your help! Thanks everyone!

There are a lot of sound bites on you tube for the different cat backs etc. My favorite is the borla s type.

I have the S-type Borla on my LS3 and I love it! Drone is unavoidable with cat-backs...so on the highway cruising at 2000rpms theres a constant reminder of what lurks beneath. When letting off the gas the exhaust pops all kinds sooo cool! Its loud but not obnoxious and it doesnt wake the neighbors late night coming home! Borla all the way!

On Corsa's site it states that the SS A6 cat-back system they offer eliminates the AFM drone. Is that just marketing talk or is it true?

I wouldnt know, I have the LS3 ... but if drone is that much of an issue to you dont change the exhaust. And I have heard the difference between my borla and my buddy's C5 Z06 with a corsa exhaust and the corsa just sounds so raspy.....my opinion.

If you want a tight, deep throaty sound with ZERO drone on the highway for under $800 shipped to your door. Get what I have, the SOLO MACH X. I love the hell out of this full stainless system with an x-Resonator and 4.5" double walled tips. It is sweet as hell. Look them up on here, there is a ton of positive feedback!

It is and has zero drone. It has a very "tight" sound, not raspy and loose sounding like many of the other name brands. For the money a hands down winner. If people can just get over the BRAND BS. SOLO has amazing customer feedback, read the forum and see for yourself.

As you mentioned, exhausts are all opinion based. I was never a big fan of borla's, they are obnoxiously loud imho, and sound like a straight pipe.
Personally, I would go to a meet, if I were you. Listen to some exhausts in person. Look up some of the designs of the different exhausts, as well as their fit. I personally went with Kooks. it's very quiet at idle, and a monster at WOT. It's a 3" exhaust, so it allows the engine to breath a lot more than others. Here's a short sound clip.

I too have the Solo Mach X, and it had no drone at highway cruising speeds....well not until I installed the headers anyway. Now it's loud as hell under power, and has a constant drone at cruising speeds. Not obnoxious, but noticable.

All you would have to do is take them to a muffler shop and have them welded in the rear, there is a TON of room back there. The shop would charge you $50-$75 bucks to weld them in.

Headers , high flow cats and OEM pipes will actually give you power and sound .
I think it's been proven the OEM exhaust is cleverly engineered and poses no restriction on a normal engine ( 6.2 / 6600 rpm ).
