Questions/Opinions on using AV100 fuel
Hey peeps, I am curious on any adverse effects on running AV100 fuel in my ride. I am currently bone stock and live in New Mexico where it is impossible to purchase anything over 91 octane at the gas stations. So I purchase AV100 from the airport. I have performed the "Fuse Pull" to re-set the ECM. Comments?

It was a waste of money sir.
You won't gain anything because your not tuned or compression is not high neither is boost in your manifold nor are you spraying lol.

Avgas has lead in it. Specifically AV100, even though it called low-lead, has 1200mg of lead in each gallon.
This is more lead than was in leaded gas back before it was discontinued because lead kills catalytic converters- so if you're bone stock, your cats are cryin' . |

Most octane boosters dont work either. The Torco stuff works a very few others.

Here is the info from the manual pg 8-44: If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine needs service.(VIN Code W) or the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code J), use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. For best performance, use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 93. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle's acceleration could be slightly reduced, and a slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred to as spark knock, might be heard. If the octane rating is less than 87, a heavy knocking noise might be heard when driving. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If heavy knocking is heard when using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, the engine Also, with the elevation of NM (approx 3,600' for Carlsbad) you don't need 93 due to the thinner air. I've been in Alamogordo (Holloman AFB) for over a year and no issues running 91. Keep the AVgas in the airplanes. |

91 should work fine on a stock car, just run premium and be happy.
Avgas has several problems for street use. First being the lead, if it is a leaded avgas. Next being it is less dense, will need tuning to get the AFR ideal for avgas. If you run avgas in a car tuned for gas, it will be lean, probably poor throttle response. It's a bad idea. |
