ive also had the same problem on acceleration. mine seems to come and go day by day, sometimes audible, sometimes not. something that really baffled me was that i heard the rattling while driving to the dealer to have other warranty work done, but wait theres more.

ive taken this particular problem to the dealer before, their response: meh we dont know what it is, and we dont care, heres your car after having it for a week, btw we didnt air your leaking tires up either, and your ac compressor still makes a ton of noise, good luck

so this recent time as im shaking my head in disapproval at the general i tightened my grip on the shifter (manual) in a bit of anger, then the sound deadened....

i get my car back tomorrow, will post results.

if that fixed the problem for sure, sounds like the exhaust is hitting the trans? that's odd. the exhaust looked to have plenty of clearance from the trans when i was under there

I had a similar problem from time to time with the exhaust hitting the tunnel brace. It's the piece of metal bolted onto the bottom of the car that connects left and right.

Simple test: Get under your car and remove the tunnel brace. It has only four bolts. Drive around for a while. If noise is gone, you know what the problem was (sagging exhaust hitting tunnel brace under hard accel). It not, at least you have eliminated that possibility.

You can insert some big nuts above the tunnel brace to space it down a bit if that was the problem. Or buy an aftermarket brace that is further down.

already shimmed the tunnel brace as that was rattling as well. exhaust has a minimum of a 3/4" under there, if not more (added 5 washers per bolt), and that rattle is gone. this sounds like it's coming from the rear of the engine bay.

leaning towards just removing them, at least the ones near the engine bay. they can't make that much of a difference

ok ive figured that the rattling i have is definitely coming from the shifter. i plan on removing the trim from around the shifter, then if i cant see whats loose then ill go under the car. im thinking its one of the points ive circled

mine's definitely not the shifter. my shifter is silent aside from the usual occaisional notchiness. all my noise is external

The conditions it happens under are interesting as well:

It happens:
-after the engine (and exhaust pipes) are up to temperature
-upon accelerating primarily in the 2-3k range, and disappears after (engine in gear)
-when neutral revving it (it is much less apparent when it is in neutral, but if i give it a good punch to the gas, itll make the sound slightly),

It seems like it only happens when the engine is experiencing a load. The noise sounds like it's coming from the center of the car too. It doesn't happen when the engine/exhaust is cold. it's also very selective on when it wants to happen, meaning it doesnt always happen under the conditions listed above, but those conditions are when it happens most.

i'm gonna take it in soon, but do you guys feel like this might be something minor?

I had a similar noise. just found out its the rear differential that needs to be replaced...still under warranty!!!

In order to capture the noise we put it on a lift and let the wheel hang out of lock and drove it like we normally would...noise came right up and was extremely loud!!

Good luck!

mine doesnt sound like a rear-end noise, plus i would imagine a rear-end noise would be constant instead of only at a certain RPM range. it sounds like its coming from a little past where the cats are (towards the rear)

I have the same issue in my car aswell. I was researching it a while ago and I read something about it being a TSB, It said the the baffles inside the cat can start to spread apart. So I went to the dealer with that information and they told me yes it makes that noise from the cats and that it was just a techical service bulletin and they were not obligated to replace it. So I think its time for long tubes and cat delete! Good luck OP!

Already got high flow cats, problem persisted. I think I'll just gut my heat shielding and see if that's it.
