Help with tire wear
Problem I have is The passenger side rear tire is gone on the inside, I took it back to the Shop to get the alignment checked and they said it was still in specs.. Any idea why the tire is wearing like this? I have Toyo Proxie4's on it.. The Perilli's wear even.. I have around 10,000 miles on them.

Could be a faulty tire. Maybe have an expert or a tire guy check it for problems. Could be a manufacturer defect hence it would be covered under warranty!

This was the reply I got. So are the saying my alliment is wrong?
* Thank you for contacting Toyo Tires USA.* Your 2010 Chevy Camaro is a performance vehicle with an factory designed negative camber setting, -0.3 degrees on the front and -0.7 degrees on the rear.* The optimum camber angle for even tire wear is +0.1 degrees, so anything with camber setting of -0.7 (as the rear of the 2010 Camaro) is going to be susceptible to inside shoulder wear.* Aggressive driving would greatly increase inside shoulder wear.* An aggressive "take off" from a dead start in a rear wheel drive vehicle will cause the rear axle to "squat", thus increasing the degree of negative camber at the exact moment of high torque and road friction.* As to why the accelerated wear is only on one tire and not the others, we can only guess, but specific driving characteristics must come into play.* A tire will only wear in the manner in which it is forced to wear by the vehicle mechanics and driving application.* If we had to guess, we would assume this particular tire has spent most of its 8,000 mile life on the rear axle, passenger side, the roughest position on a rear wheel drive vehicle.* This condition is not a tire issue. * We do hope this information is helpful to you. * |

That's a bummer, but for the NEXT tires, is rotation an option? Not sure of those are directional (they appear to be), and if you have staggered wheels, may not be possible, but, at least with rotation, one can extend the life of a set, by sharing the heavy wear areas. Too bad it's all the way down to "ready to freakin' fly apart like a big rig tire," because you do not want to ride one more mile on that thing (Just the other day, I stopped for a car on the shoulder of the Interstate. It looked like the car had been involved in an accident. Turns out, MAJOR body damage was done to the car when the tread separated, slapping the fender to pieces, bashing the bumper in, and even pounding the trunk lid down to worthless... and the tire still held air!).
You don't want to risk that on a Camaro... that would be a true tragedy. |

Interesting response from Toyo....my Pirelli did the same and I paid for a second alignment.....shop told me that it was in spec but they "fixed" it. I'll have to pull my sheet now! Thanks for posting it and good luck w/ that tire, hope you don't have to drive on it!!
