I hope it works out and I'm willing to bet money the techs will not work in a dealership again anytime soon.
Actually he went to the dealer before posting. They tried to offer him, a tank of gas to sweep it under the rug.

I'm glad the OP has a positive outcome for himself. The open question is, what happened to the personnel at the dealership and how will the dealer prevent this from happening to another victim?

If anyone finds out that side of the story, please post.

Great news that the dealer is rebuying it. But isn't that what the dealer offered to do before? "Fries his clutch just so they can offer to trade it in?" -- hopefully what it means is that they're paying William enough to put him in a brand new car. Still though, to have to go through this ordeal is just ridiculous.

Not to mention the poor soul buying the certified pre-owned car in future

I guess now each time their tech wants to do burnouts and hard launches, they'll frisk the car for voice recorders first...

I would guess that when he says "buy back" the car, this time he means pay him the full price, including tax and all fees, that he paid for the car 3 years ago. Not simply buy it back for it's current trade in value. I'm sure William wouldn't stand for that.

In the end I'd say that's the right thing to do. If he had pursued this in such a way that he demanded a ZL1 with a full GM b-to-b warranty for 6/100 like some people suggested that's just a little much.

Simply buying it back for his full original purchase price give William the option to simply buy a new Camaro without loosing much money.....

I suspect he'll buy one from another dealer, though. Something tells me Best Chevrolet is not going to see him ever again once he takes the money and gives them his car with a melted clutch

I would hope he OP means, buying it back at what he paid. This way he gets his loan paid off and his down payment back. Then He can go to another dealer and buy a brand new car.

But something tells me they will be buying the car back at blue book value. I would walk with anything less than every red cent paid on the bill of sale including any warranty, tax, tags, and (insert other BS charges here).

Dealers Joyride

Merged with Mega Thread

________________________

I don't know if this is a re-post and sorry if it is!! I searched for keywords and didn't find anything on the ZL1 side. There is a thread on the SS/5th Gen side that shows a dealer technicians having a joy ride in a customers SS Camaro that he took in for a clunking noise in the clutch at parking lot speeds. I just wanted people who have Z's or that actively look on just this ZL1 thread to know this was out there! My wife sent me a link to Yahoo this morning about it. Thread can be found here.

Yahoo article here

Just a little heads up if some of you are worried about your Z's.

I am happy to see that this is probably going to work out for the OP. I have these fears all the time when I take my cars to the dealer.

That's true. One could trade it in at any time if its just a 'fair market value' deal.

And yes, I'm definitely going to leave an audio recorder in the car each time at service from now on. Doesn't take any special equipment, just leave an old iPod touch on...
