how tough is the oe lsd

my cars a week end driver no racing future mods will put me in the 450rwhp range. I dont go doing burnouts all the time but it might break them loose now and then. Im putting GM 3.91 gears in and am thinking of a Eaton Truetrac. Do I really have to upgrade the locker. I dont race. I just dont want to spend all this money to have the gears installed just to blow up the LSD. Was thinking about billet caps too. is the stock rear end really that bad. no 1 wheel peel. I know about the posi mod but would do the eaton over it.

Full 1LE suspension, with BMR adjustable sway bars and links, GM aluminum cradle bushings, Hurst shifter with lighter reverse spring, TWM shifter knob, Tick level 1 transmission. I should have bought a ZL1

I pretty much use my car like you, have the 3.91 gears and am in the 460 rwhp range. I just did a straight gear swap - didn't upgrade any rear diff parts. I've had about 3K miles of trouble free use including a few hard launches and a couple of 1/4 mile runs - all good so far.

Certainly upgrading wouldn't be the wrong thing for you but I deemed it not needed for my use.

I have the 3.91s, JRE posi mod, LPW diff cover, and I race mine every other weekend when I'm not deployed. I also drive it like I stole it. Dyno'd 607rwhp and 525ftlbs on 22's. If you dont race I think the eaton is over kill.

Agree with all of the above! For your use I think it's overkill! I have 3.91's and only did the gears. I've done autocross, an HPDE road course event, and about 10 drag runs with no problems! I'm at around 420rwhp so in your case another 30 won't make much of a difference IMO!

I think this belongs in the drivetrain section.

If anything, I would do at least the JRE posi mod. Think of it as cheap insurance for your rear end. It's roughly $200 and in order to do your gear swap, you would have to pull the LSD anyway.
