Angry Why should my ZL1 be out of service for a trim part!!

My Camaro has been at the dealership almost 2 weeks and disassembled due to the third brake light filler falling out of place. I figured all they had to do is remove the package tray, slide it back into place and adhere it. (It did have some type of double sided tape showing.) I've been calling and they told me they were waiting for a replacement panel. Fast foward July 3rd, The panel is on backorder!!

To top it off I had my Traverse in for a recall the day before, dropped off the ZL1 when I picked up the Traverse. The Traverse has to go back because the Driver seat bottom cover became loose due to the improper installation. Went back and the seat has to come out to fix. I will not tie up 2 cars at once.

They did supply a loaner car, a 80,000 mile Malibu which needs alot of suspension work. Last time I go there!

You can't go get your car and bring it back when the part is in?

They might not be able to since the brake light is a safety device.

The light is in the rear spoiler. It's the filler were the 3rd brake would be on a Camaro without a spoiler. Later models have a flat package tray without the provision for a 3rd brake light.

Ahhh. That filler piece does look a bit out of place. I didn't know that they updated the new ZL1's to have their own tray.

Out of service and waiting on parts applies to the Lemon Law. Most states 30 days out of service and you can invoke the Lemon Law. Something to be aware of.

In NJ it must be within 2 years or 24,000 Miles. I'm past 2 years but under 5,000 miles. And Yes it's still at the dealer waiting for a new package tray. I'm so frustrated, there isn't 1 available nationwide. Can that be possible? GM must be going down the tubes.

If your car is drivable , never drop it off until they get the parts in. Remember its your car not GMs, unless its on their paper, but the dealer has no involvement in that..

Before anyone flames me, I have heard and witnessed (cuz my my first job out of high school was at a chevy dealer) that a dealer may have damaged your car and dont want to tell you and is at the bodyshop trying to get it fixed without you knowing. So they tell you that there is a part on backorder etc. so that buys them time to get the car back. So go there and tell them you need to get something out of the car. That way you can personally and physically see your car.
This is just my 2 cents and I hate to be playing devils advocate and bring up the worst possible scenario but it wouldn't be too far fetched of a scenario. I would go to the dealer to see your car. Hopefully I am wrong.

Why not request a 2014 rear deck be installed. That would fit in a 2010-2013 Camaro. You don't need the third brake light filler since you have the light in the spoiler.

Although I have not done it yet, I did some research a few weeks ago on accessing that 3rd brake light in the rear deck lid. It is a HUGE job. The rear seats need to be removed, and a whole lot of trim pieces, that all are held in by brittle plastic clips.

I'm with sspddmn. I bet they broke something while taking it out, and didn't want to tell you. Since your brake light is in the spoiler anyway there should not be any safety issues with you driving it until they get the part in. Just understand that without that deck lid it's going to look like crap in the back... and if they don't put the rear seats back in you will get a lot of road noise from the trunk.

2014 Decklid will probably look better anyways

That's a scary thought. As if I wasn't already paranoid enough to drop my car off anywhere :/
