Poll: will you be ordering a Z/28 -- and will you track it?
A lot of folks are questioning the Z/28's very direct focus on track usage. So, I decided to throw a little poll into the mix. I realize you can't formally order these cars yet, but I'm first on my dealer's list. Here goes...

If you buy one of these beasts, you must track it. Don't think I'll buy one though. I think I'll grab a used ZL1.

Just for the record, I will be tracking mine about 75% of the time. Another 20% will be driving to the track. The remaining 5% will be pleasure use on the street...

I'm not getting one unless they fix the stick on fender flares.

Not that I'm in a position to buy one right now, but if I were, I'd DEFINITELY track it ... as much as possible!!! But based on my own track record (ha, ha, ha, ............shameless pun!) I only do a handful of track days a year anyway, compared to daily driving whatever car I've got, so even though I voted 20% - 40%, I'd probably be hard pressed to exceed ~20% of the car's driving being on-track.
If I could AFFORD it, the car would be ~60% - 80% track use, but still get plenty of fun street miles in too .

I already have 4 cars in my driveway . 5 will just enhance the driveway "not itentionally bragging, Rather informing" and hell yeah I'm tracking . Not to mention The huge activity that takes place here at least 1 a month . I'll just park it outside someone's venue for stares and pics.

I already have 5-cars, I have no case for getting a 6th DD car unless it is only for my track hobby.
Thus the Z28 would be on dedicated race rubber (1/2 the cost) trailered to track. My justification to my wife would be to have fail safe brakes when going 140-mph (she is not interested in me getting a $ 1-mil insurance policy instead) |

So, I will be the odd one here. I would buy one and hold on to it (a few cruise weekends here and there but no track).
My reason: I have a strong feeling that we are in a very short window of a muscle car renaissance. With the CAFE standards coming in a couple years and GM stating this is going to be a limited production run Camaro, this may be a car worth having a 4-5 years when the only thing you can get in a Camaro is a turbo 6cyl that looks like it belongs in a Toyota. If the COPO would have been street legal (and they made a few more than 69 of them) I would have been in line for that for the same reason. Cars are most always a horrible investment but this one MIGHT be different. |
