02 Sensor Problem!! Any suggestions. UPDATE
I got a check engine light this morning. I went to auto zone to have it checked and it read that I my 02 sensors were bad or malfunction. I have a TVS 2300 with the no cats and stock CAI. Has anybody had any problems with their sensors going bad after the install. I had it tuned and running for a couple of months now, so im pretty sure they tuned it out or whatever they had to do. Could the sensors have gone bad already? Any help or suggestions would be great right now

I checked the connections and everything was still in tack. Lines were not melted or anything

What is the code that popped up. There are several codes that go with the O2 sensors.

I wasn't able to get the code. But I just started it right now and looked at the Air to fuel ratio gauge and its reading like 10.4. I have never seen it run that low before so im guessing its a tune issue right? Or do the sensors got to be replaced? I don't think it is safe to drive it with the A/F ratio that low. Would it be safe to drive it?

well if your check engine light is on, that means the car is going into open loop which usually runs rich.
But the best way for help is to get the exact code, plus you have to see if its front or rear o2's. did they say both were bad or just one bank?

I don't have the rear 02 sensors. I had them deleted since I don't not have cats, straight pipe. So I just got the front 2 sensors only. Do you think its safe to drive it like that to the store to have it checked out?

I would just buy a new sensor and put it in.

Is it that rich at idle? It should br finr at light throttle to get to autozone etc.

You mean "open loop". Closed loop is using the O2 sensors to control fueling.

UPDATE: I went ahead and bought the 02 sensors and that fixed the problem. Few months have passed by and now I got the check engine light again. I went to auto zone and CODE 1153 came up. I called my tuner and he said that it is probably because of the cold weather we have been having. We have had some colder weather before and no check engine light has came on before. I recently had it tuned when I put a cai and a smaller pulley. Anybody else has had this problem. I would think the sensors are still good since they are only 6-8 months old. I do not have cats as well. And advice will be great and usefull

According to my experience, the codes that pop out are P1133 and P1153 .. Those are related to the two Oxygen sensors upfront .. You should be able to clear them yourself .. I believe most of TVS2300 users have the SCT Tune device .. I use it only to detect and identify the codes .. You can also clear the code .. You should worry about it if it pops frequently ... If it does, then there is something wrong with them .. I get'em once in a while and in weather change .. Sometimes those sensors get lazy too .. Sometimes you'll notice that one of the sensors is touching the heat shield (you can see it once you life up the car) .. This might cause the wire sensors to heat up and melt sometimes .. make sure it doesn't touch it and you should be fine .. Your tuner can also identify in his tuning device (HP Tuners ...etc) if you're idling range is good and whether you're between the 5% range of being rich or lean .. There is also the O2 sensors gauge indicators, it will reveal to him if your sensors are working good or not .. Hope that helps .. |
