FLOWTIE on ZL1 grill, DIY
FLOWTIE on ZL1 grill, DIY
1. Use flat head screwdriver and Push the gold center bowtie emblem from back it will fall of once you push hard enough. 2. Cut along the inner edge of the bowtie, I used a kitchen knife, heated it up and cuts like a cheese. 3. Do the same with the bowtie holder on the grill. 4. I used a gutter screen from Lowes, $2.89 to replace the gold center of bowtie. 5. I just used a plier to bent it back and forth and cut into bowtie shape to fit into the chrome flowtie frame. 6. Now once you put it together put some 3m double sided tape around it and your flowtie is ready. 7. I figured that the bumper itself sorta squeezes in at the middle and exerts pressure and holds the flowtie, so that and the 3m tape has been holding up pretty good. Been almost a month. Ordering an extra bow tie just in case I screw it up, thanks for the DIY, it looks great.
I wonder if you could make the rear one look the same. With the mesh insert that is.

4DBOWTIE
Quote:
I thought of that but was not sure if anyone would be interested. I have not practically tried it though, you can give it a try if you would like to since the gold emblem and the mesh is about the same thickness, idea here is to replace it with mesh bowtie cutout and keep it together for long haul. - Pop the gold emblem out. - cut a Vinyl out at bowtie shape, color/texture of your choice. - cut mesh into bowtie shape. -----two ways to keep the mesh bowtie cutout intact----- -----1------- - get a fishing line (or something strong & barely visible)(color it black to match the mesh) - make pin holes on all corners & one at center. - Paste the Vinyl cutout on to the bowtie. - Put some Gorilla glue or glue of your choice on the back of mesh cutout, try not to put too much glue coz its gonna squeeze out when you put all together, or you can skip this if you are confident on the fishing line. - place mesh cutout on to the bowtie. - Insert fishing line through the pinholes from the rear end of the bowtie and back over from the mesh, tie both ends up at the rear end of the bowtie and your 4DBOWTIE is ready, fix it back up to the trunk with two sided tape. -----2----- - while cutting mesh into bowtie shape leave some length out on edges/corners to look like a claw that can go into the holes on bowtie to hold itself up. - make tiny holes on all corners for claws. - Paste the Vinyl cutout on to the bowtie. - Put some Gorilla glue or glue of your choice on the back of mesh cutout, try not to put too much glue coz its gonna squeeze out when you put all together - claw the mesh cutout on to the bowtie. |
