Trade Your 5th Gen for a '68?
NO WAY!
I was at the grocery store today, and as I was getting back into my car, the guy in the car next to me (60-ish like me) says - "Would you trade your car for a '68"? I didn't need to think even a fraction of a second. There is no way I EVER want a car with a carburetor again and I told him so. I also remarked that my V6 has more power than most of the '60s V8s. Thinking deeper I think I would answer that I would love to have BOTH my 5th Gen *AND* the '68. I could actually drive my 2011 every day, and keep the '68 for parades and such. Are any Camaro5 members part of a club that owns a 60's car and a new one? |

haha, I agree. They're pretty, they're cool, they're a piece of history.... that SOMEONE ELSE can own.
Spent a bunch of time and money on a 1965 Dodge Panel Van that was pretty rare......and a PITA. Love the new retro Camaro. |

It would depend on what the '68 is worth. You can always buy another new Camaro.
I know that's not really what the question was, the answer to that is no I wouldn't keep a '68 I'm just not into owning classic cars at this point in my life.

RichSS2006 (New England chapter) has a beautiful big block first gen and a fifth gen V8; having been in both cars that would be a tough call if I had to choose only one....

This subject reminds me of a poster I saw once...
Super hot chick in wet t-shirt posing (compare to super hot 68' Camaro posing) with the caption under it saying "No matter how hot she is... someone, somewhere is tired of putting up with her crap!" Kind of the same thing. They're just pits to throw money, time, and small sacrificial animals into. |

Been there did that for decades with old hot rodding of Chevys 60s and 70s, cannot find the comfort and road sticking ability of a new Camaro with all its high tech and traction control stabillitrac things I could only dream of like a HUD..... LOL tough choice but I chose modern, but still do go visceral and just like to listen to the sound of my engine as much as music....

I just had a guy that my wife works with ask me today if I was interested in his Chevelle. He told me I should sell my Camaro and buy his Chevelle. I told him the same thing about carb cars and that I like fuel injection way better. I also like heated seats, nice sound system, and a hell of a lot more power than his old Chevelle.
My neighbor has a 67 Camaro RS that he asked me if I was interested in buying. I checked out the car and decided I didn't want to buy it. The first thing I noticed is how hard it was to start since he had not started it in a few weeks. I store mine all winter and it starts immediately in the spring. No thanks to the old technology! |

Take the trade and then drop a new LS or LT4 engine in it!

I did the opposite, sold my '68 ProTour car And got a new Camaro.
Also have an all original 69. There's something to be said for both of the cars, they each have something special. I like the sound when you crack the old Quadrajet open. BTW - the 68 had a new GMPP LS3 480hp, 6sp, and 14" Wilwoods. The new Z reminds me a lot of that car, raw. Old cars are not nessesarily money pits if you do the work yourself. |

I'd love to have, for example, a restored and highly modified '66 Chevelle, but I'd never want one without a modern car also in the garage. In that regard, I'd for sure agree with you OP. As would most here, I'm sure.
