VVT or not?

I have a stock LY6 that I'm wanting to do a cam, LS 3 intake, and header in my Nova. Looking for 450 ish rwhp with a T56 tranny. It looks like I'm going to have to replace the entire front drive and accessories to a 2010 camaro or vette. This will be used a just a street rod so I'd like a nice hot cam and the engine needs to look clean. That's why I'm using the ls3 intake and car accessories.

I know there was some success with the tsp vvt cams but not sure how good the tuning is? Can I reach the same hp with a non vvt cam without the headaches or is it worth me keeping the vvt and why?

I kept vvt but I tune for a living. 450 is relatively easy with a mildly aggressive non vvt cam. My numbers are in my Sig with a mast vvt grind.

True. Mill the heads and run a mid 230/240 at .050.

Mast and TexascSpeed make nice VVT cams. If your tuner cant tunemVvT get a good tuner. A non VVT cam might have higher HP but a VVT cam will have more power under the curve! vVT only becomes a hinderance if you want a dyno queen with maximum hp.

I just want a hot rod... It's just a cruiser that I dont want any drivability issues. I don't have a tuner.

You gotta ask around shops in your area that know how to tune LSX cars.

Here is a pretty known tuner that comes to mind off the top of my head

The shop is located at:
2179 Tomlynn St
Richmond VA 23230
804-358-2505 - For tuning or technical ask for Steve; to schedule work or parts installation ask for Jimmy.
Tuned by Frost

Virginia speed is another pretty popular shop

Don't know how far they are from you. BUT IMHO if your looking for that 450 RWHP I'd convert it and delete vvt. Reason being that on the Ly6's with the L92 heads you PTV clearances are tight. Your stock compression is 9.6!
So I'd mill the heads and I'd call someone like Geoff at EPS to spec you out a good cam.

I'll get the tune figured out with someone local like v speed. Why ditch the vvt? Can I meet my goals with just cam, ls3 intake, headers, and tune?

They can also suggest a cam for you to use. They are pretty knowledgeable over there! When using an Ls3 intake the MAPS hole is bigger than an Ly6's so you'll need to stack some orings iirc.

On 9.6 compression it will be very hard with just cam and bolt ons.

Problem with the manual and vvt is weird throttle and cam transitions make for a notchy feel. That's why gm on dis it in the auto and utilized torque converter slip ro make it feel seamless.
