To hood or not to hood?

I am trying to decide whether or not I really want to replace my OEM Aluminum hood. Why? because it seems weird to me to replace a perfectly good hood with another. The OEM hood fits perfectly etc, and it's aluminum, so it's lighter than it would normally be already...

I have two hoods in mind.
The MPD1 Z-Force hood.

Or the MPD1 Cowl induction hood.

My car is Aqua Blue. It is currently having the front and rear painted black (LS7 Concept style)and my stripes will be black as well, once I decide if I am going to replace my hood or not. I love the look of the scooped hoods, they look aggressive, and powerful. I really like the Revolution hood the best, because the scoop sits further back on the hood, which works great with the mail slot. But as some of us know they had some issues earlier in this forum that make me less confident with going that route, and Eric with MPD has had nothing but great things said about him and his products.

For as long as I can remember I have always loved the '69 Camaro with the COWL induction hoods, hence my reason for wanting one now. Plus it is less common on the 5th Gen. I think it would look great with the stripes I plan to put on it. Anyway I just wanted to get everyone's opinions and ideas before I make a decision on it.

Thanks!

I had trouble trying to figure out which one to get too (if I end up spending the money on one) and decided on the sinister hood. The Leno hood seems to be growing on me too now though

Fit and finish are what keep me away from an aftermarket hood. Plus what the heat of the sun will do long term. At least with the new Leno style hood inserts from ACS, you can keep the aluminum hood. After my cf diffuser situation, I don't believe product fit and finish pictures at all.

You all have said the same things I'm feeling, the sinister and mpd1 hood scoops are too close for my total liking that's part of why I consider the cowl too. The revolution hood scoop sits further back which is part of it appeal.
Plus the cost plus the paint etc. For a hood that my not fit as well as the OEM... Or have chipping issues down the road... I need to decide so I can get my rally stripes painted. I'd rather not paint them on my stock hood if I swap it out later. And at the same time I'll have a stock hood sitting in storage... Ugh decisions decisions... For those who have hoods how are the holding up with time? Do they fit well?

They are both good choices, and getting an aftermarket hood will really set your car apart. You might even be able to sell the stock one... there have been a lot of fender benders already in these cars.

yeah i kinda thought that too, but after talking to the guy from PFYC.com at C5 Fest 2, i'm sold. super nice guy and the hood is awesome!

a secret he told me is that when they get a carbon fiber one in and it's not laid well (the lines are kinda messed up or whatever), he'll just primer it and sell it as fiberglass. not sure how many end up like that, but i thought that was cool.
