Even still, the LS9 doesn't not produce enough torque or horsepower to push the ZL1 fast enough in the 1/4 mile to beat a GT500.

...ok I must say I am a traditionalist and need no new models or growth beyond what we had years ago, SS and Z/28. I am an OG.....the ZL1 is new, no need for it. It's the Space Shuttle of automotive American ingenutiy, it's technology, and the will of it's company to bring a product to market, a pinacle of determination and ability. A holy grail....a testiment. Leave it there....of a grand achievement..take what's learned from it, and stream line the brand back to it's root structure. In an ever changing world where we can make anything we want, why is there the need to do it, just because? The energy doctrine, tax penalties, surcharges, and luxury perception to support these platfoms is now about to change at the same rate as the technology is availbale. Forgo the pain and streamline the HP product into one platform now while we can sustain this wave for a little while. Don't fall prey to the old model thinking we had which does not fit to make it for sales in an uncertain economic market moving forward that in all reality will be not a profit margin plus side for a changing company. Let's progress to the more streamlined economical approach of one model, with no subdivision or inter squad competion for sales numbers, that allows us to still get something at a semi affordable price....before it's priced into the uber rich catagory in the not too distant future. We can not sustain this market into the next wave of implemented standards. High end Vettes cost a ton no doubt, when in the history of Chevy have we been considered into this exclusive price catagory for a regular consumer production vehicle market. Vette is the halo car....let it remain there...ZL1 and Z/28 are not going to mix very well a couple years heading out.

Old school thinking like that is what led to Camaro death in 2002 and for them in trouble in 2008 when the economy crashed. They need to be ahead of the game to survive.

Talking

So, I went to the auto show in Columbus today with a friend to check out all the recent and upcoming cars. He's a Mustang guy, so I waited patiently while he talked with the Ford representatives at the show, and he waited while I talked with the Chevrolet people about Camaros. The woman I spoke to showed me a Hot Wheels edition convertible 2SS. She was telling me all about it, specs, unique features, so I asked if the color would be made available for the 2014's, and she said no, it was limited to this special edition.

Then, I couldn't help myself, I looked at her with half squinted eyes and a sideways glance and said, "Okay, everything here from 2013 is great and all, the Hot Wheels edition, the ZL1, but what about these rumors of the Z28 making a comeback?" To be honest, I didn't expect anything of any substance to be said as an answer to that, but what I got as a response was surprising.

The girl looked away, took a deep breath, then smiled and said, "Well, there is nothing "official" that is being said as of yet about that. However, there are a lot of leftover LS7 power plants from the C6 Corvette program, a "leaked" vin sheet that seems to indicate as much might be in the works, plus the fact that the Gen 5 Camaros are getting closer to the end of their run, so it wouldn't and shouldn't be a surprise if the Z28 makes its return as an end of an era surprise for Camaro loyalists. There is talk of some big news as far as Camaro is concerned supposed to be revealed at the New York Auto show, which is only ten days away by the way, so the best I can say for now is simply Stay Tuned and Keep the Faith."

I was shocked to hear those exact phrases and wording at the end of what she had to say. I looked at her, probably with a half confused look on my face and said, "That's just the sort of speculation and things being said over on Camaro5.com, which is where I read up on all the latest Camaro news."

She just shrugged and said, "Never been to that site, I'll have to check that out." She then thanked me for stopping by the Chevy booth, and moved on to the next group that was looking at the Camaros.

I know this isn't anything beyond what we already knew, but the fact that Chevrolet had someone so knowledgeable about the cars even down to details like that regarding current rumors really impressed me. Not to mention specific phrasing like "Stay Tuned" and "Keep the Faith" just threw me for a loop. Maybe there is still some solid hope yet. What do you guys make of this? I was really surprised to get a response like that from a Chevy rep.

Damn... These last 10 days are gonna drive some people insane. I doubt I'm in the market for a LS7 powered Camaro but it will make me stall a little on my 1LE. I hope she doesn't show up for at least 8 more days. That way I can keep the peace with my salesman while I wait for the 27th.

June 6th of last year is when we saw 2013 pricing. That doesn't mean it will be around the same time we see 2014 pricing, but I plan on using it as a guide. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228997

I hope she was told that she could say that. It is kind of strange that she uses phrases that we see on here all the time and has never been to the site.

Yeah, it really surprised me to hear her say that, to say the least. It did make me that much more excited to pay attention to the news on the 27th. I mean, she didn't really say anything that we didn't already have as scraps of information already. The only thing it added to anything was a Chevrolet rep bringing up the Vin sheet and the LS7 motor unprompted beyond a question about a potential Z28 announcement. The Stay Tuned bit made me think that maybe it was a coached response to any questions on the matter?

I'm not sure what to think, I just wanted to pass it along to you guys for analysis. I asked, and really didn't expect anything like what I got as a response, but it did make me more hopeful than I had been previously.

...my brother, I as you want a Z/28, it became the ZL1 as we have discussed. It's cool, but not a Z/28. We can hash and rehash this from now till doomsday, make the Z/28, drop the ZL1. We do not need another new halo Camaro, as the Vette does. We just need the Z/28.

...now that's where we may part company. Become a student of history and read about why the F body line died. You are far off base my friend.
