Top Gear $1000 moonshine car, what would your pick have been?
I got to thinking they made 3 pretty bad choices IMHO. For the price I think I would have looked for either a Boxy or whale Caprice 9C1 or a boxy or even aero Crown VIc P71. Big trunks, strong (relatively) V8 motors, upgraded suspensions, tough as nails (preferred would of course be a 94-96 Caprice, though you my not be able to locate a running one at that price point). What do you guys and gals think?

I think you have the luxury of knowing what the challenges entailed. I think tanner's choice of the 300zx was a pretty good one.
the 1000$ budget part kind of sucks. I probably would have looked for a old civic hatch or something before knowing what the challenges were. an old crown vic would be good, maybe a old jeep cherokee.. budget really needs to increase to make it more interesting : P

Id go for a downsized cutlass/regal that boxey style car but with an engine,
full frame still and they handled great stock in the sense that after taking a corner to fast, it was real easy to control. Azz end could get all out of whack on a turn and it came right back with little effort and still kinda tankish like the earlier 70s monster version. But straight shots, running road blocks id go for one of those big LTD coupe/wagon with a BB to smash through and not care about the car. |

'77 Plymouth Volare'
Had one in college back in the late 80's. The car would not die. |

Had a 79 Volare Duster, 318, ate 4 rear ends and 2 trannies. Last hurra coming around a corner hot, it took out both. {still got the monster orange hoodscoop I had on it, the traction bars and drilled the rim it had for my Buick. It still kinda lives.} |

I have a 95 9C1 I picked up at a police auction for $200. Had a miss due to a burnt plug wire. After a new set of plugs and wires the car runs like a champ, fast as hell and just about indestructible. And don't get me started on the handling. It was a detective car so it has little miles and little abuse. It is an awesome car.
