My other baby...84 Monte SS
I had a request for pics so I thought I would share with everyone...
These are a few years ago before I tore her apart and started the rebuild..as well as some from the rebuild...it's still ongoing... 350 crate 290 hp brand spanking new and painted... My tired old 305 Me putting her back together....somewhat....lol The day I got her back from paint....got screwed over on paint job and it was gone for almost 3 years....at this point I was just happy to have her back.... She still needs to be repainted, but this is what happens when you let someone you think is a friend do it under the table...the majority of the paint and prep was done by him, the motor swap was done by me with help from my husband and this friend.... The bodywork was done well, the paint job has dirt nibs all over it cause he painted it in a filthy barn. I am putting her back together because I want to drive her despite what she looks like....saving more money and I will pay a reputable shop this time...lesson learned! Hope you enjoy! Anybody else have something other than a Camaro to play with??? Not that the Camaros aren't fun....just curious.... |

Nice '84 Monte! I love these G-bodies, and even though I do plan on a Camaro sometime in the future, I'm not sure I can get away from these. I had a 1986 Cutlass Supreme Brougham that I foolishly let go couple years ago.. Lesson learned on that, and now I have my 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix L.E. One of these days I'll be tearing into my Grand Prix, one of these days.. For now she's my daily and I love it, 2.41 rear gears, stock 305 and all. I thought I was fairly lucky with my G-body. Living in Wisconsin and finding one with minimal rust is a challenge. Finding one like mine with no rust for under a grand is darn near impossible, but I found one.
I don't plan on doing any major modifications to mine. First and foremost it needs paint. Primer splotches are not very attractive to some. After that, few mods to the little 305, exhaust work, maybe change gears to 3.42's or 3.73's, and then I'll be happy with it as a daily driver. Nice Monte again though, keep us updated on how the project comes along. |

Those are two very nice G-Bodies. The Monte Carlo is my 2nd favorite, next to the Grand Prix. Primarily because I use to have an '83 Grand Prix. It was my first car and it was a blast to cruise around in. I had to sell her though, make room for my Camaro. It's in the family still, so it wasn't too big of a deal letting her go. She'll get properly restored. Here's an image from a couple years ago when it was my main mode of transportation.

Me too, but man are they rare. I couldn't believe it when I saw one few years back. It looked like it's been sitting for awhile though. :( Damn shame.

Great G-bodies guys!
I also liked the 2+2's, just wish they would have given them the "H.O." engine to put them on par with the other performance oriented G-bodies of the time. |

Love G-bodies as well. I have a G-body, well an A-body special 1979 Monte undergoing a pro-touring rebuild (LSX, big brakes, suspension...). I hope to hit the streets late this summer.
Good luck on all of your G-body projects. |

My wife has an '87 Monte Carlo SS burgandy in color, 199,xxx miles, all original except for Flowmaster mufflers, and the strip down and repaint we had done in '01. it does not have the bubble back window though. Now that I am into car shows with the Camaro, I have put new door seals in it, a new hood liner (insulation) to put in it thanks to mice, and am going to remove the headliner to reglue it. Then we can take that to car shows too! I haven't driven it much because it is not mine, and she does not drive it because I traded one of my toys to get it repainted and she is afraid if the paint gets messed up, I will be mad. Hopefully we will start enjoying it more now, 'cause getting it out, cleaning it up, just to get it inspected is getting rediculous.
