That looks like an '84 Berlinetta. In '85 Chevy updated the front end of the Camaro and made it smoother. The pics show the same front as when the 3rd gens came out in 1982with the larger 3 slit openings and recessed parking lights and grilles below.

My first Camaro was an '82 Berlinetta in the same charcoal gray color.

Don't do it!

Just because it wasnt a good time period for horsepower, doesnt mean the cars are junk if the op isnt planning on keeping it stock. A 3rd gen lsx swap would be a cool project....just start off w/ a solid car.

Agree. If he has the time, help, and funds, it'd be a great project. This is especially true if the car isn't rotted out.

Honestly, the Berlinetta, while not a powerhouse, was a very unique and technological step forward for the Camaro. The digital dash and swing-out buttons were quite futuristic for the time.

Besides the rust, that digital dash as they called it (Or star-wars dash haha) Is near impossable to find/replace nowadays. I had an 83 Berli that i was restoring before it was wrecked and i had the same issues that you will pop up with. I'm all for restoring the Berlinetta's cause you just don't see them around anymore, but I would honestly pay like 100 bucks for the thing, part it out then sell the rest of the body to the scrap pile. Also Good luck finding the stock rims.... I know theres a Junkyard in the central valley of california where my old berlinetta is rusting away :( that has the stockers on them.... that is if its still there.

If you can afford to do it and have the ability I think it would be cool... I'd restore it completely stock, as the world has enough hacked up 3rd gens...but a cherry, showroom fresh 3rd gen would be a rare site indeed... and would be cool to see one rise from the dead.

It's an '85. You are thinking of the Z/28 front facia, which did indeed change in 85, as well as the ground effects and taillights, but the berlinetta and base models kept the same facias as the earlier models.

not to get in peeing match, but that does have the '84 nose on it. The '85 and 86 cars moved the parking lights forwards in the nose resesses. Not as smooth as the IROC and Z28 models and still retaining the cross bar in the lense. Late '85 and '86 cars had capital letters in the BERLINETTA emblems on the B-pillars and steering wheels/wheel centers.

No peeing match needed... I stand corrected!

For all we know it may be an 85 with an 84 front. Something that old and neglected is likely hard to know exactly everything about it.

My first car was my 86 camaro berlinetta, got it when i was 16(now im 20). Its not my daily driver anymore, but i still have it, and drive it in the summer!! Im glad to see someone other than me likes the berlinetta. A lot of people (on here, and other places) think the berlinettas were just crap. But they have an awesome interior, and look damn good on the exterior when theyre nice and fixed up. But as others have said, that car doesnt really look like much. My camaro was in horrible shape when i bought it, but thats worse lol. If you are willing to spend a lot of money on this car, then i say absolutely go for it!! But if you are on a tight budget, i dont know if this is the right car for you man
