BBK headers? Help needed!!
Ok... so I have a muffler delete, and originally picked up a set of shorty headers. I later changed my mind and decided to go long tubes for the added power gain. The only problem is, I like how loud my exhaust is now, but don't want it to get too much louder since I live in a condo and don't want to piss off the neighborhood. A little bit of extra rumble wouldn't be too bad within reason. So my thought is to go with long tubes and high flow cats. I figure the cats will help tame the noise a little, but I would still be getting a benefit from the LT's.
So a lot of LT's with high flows are in the $1200, but I was looking around and found ceramic coated BBK's for $849! Does anyone have these? What are your thoughts? I'm looking for a decent price, but not at the expense of a bad product.

Also, I'm thinking about going with 1 3/4" primaries since I won't be going forced induction... I will probably be adding a cam eventually.

I'm in the same boat as you Spiffy.....looking to buy long tubes ASAP....the BBK's are the most economical priced long tubes but I want to make sure they do not lack good quality...
Does BBK make hight flow cats to bolt up to their longtubes ?? |

I saw they make several versions, and one of them is ceramic coated and includes high flow cats for $849!!! You can also swap it out for a straight pipe if you want. That's a crazy price considering a lot of companies want 1200-$1400 for the same thing. So if the quality is there, this seems like a no brainer... I searched and really only found posts about v6's. I'm surprised more of the v8 guys haven't jumped on this if it's good. ANYONE???????

there is an article in this monthes Super Chevy magazine where they installed and tested BBK shorty and long tubes on a 2010 SS, very good article showing install tips and the dyno numbers...i can scan it and email it to ya if you want...might help make up ur mind. Im sure BBK has to be of some quality!....ceramic coated, and the dyno numbers looked pretty nice too.

Check Doug Thorley too, I installed em on my car and picked up 3 tenths in the quarter without tune so far. They are the cheapest I found ceramic coated.

Longtubes, even with highflow cats, will make your exhaust quite a bit louder.
BBKs are a pretty good brand though. They received very favorable reviews on Tech with the LS1 crowd who purchased them. |

I purchased a set of Doug Thorley shorties, and never installed them because I decided to go with long tubes. The quality seemed pretty good. They don't offer high flows, so I am going to stay away from them for now. I could always add a set of high flows, but then your up to the price of a set that already includes high flows...

I see the ceramic coated with hi-flow cats are $849, and the SS (304) are $999. Does that mean stainless is better?

I would consider going with the non catted versions, but I'm not running mufflers (and don't really plan on it), so I don't want it to be insanely loud... only loud.

I could be wrong but from what i read....i dont think BBK comes with a complete hardware install kit....gaskets, new manifold studs, and clamps that would be needed for install.....mayb thats why such an economical price ?

No, BBK's are not popular with the LS1 crowd. They are the least popular. I could start a list (of the most popular) but that would defeat the purpose of this thread.
