I got a lot of good response at a car show last weekend. Ran into a couple issues tho:

1. had to wait till after dark to show it off (nothing we can do about that)
2. Trying to KEEP them on...any ideas?

I currently have driver's side wired to the dome light, which works well for about 5 or 10 minutes. but the passenger is wired into the ABL, and goes off after about 30 seconds.

Unless you have the key in the ignition, but then the car beeps at you that the doors are open (to show the light).

someone smart (sick SS) suggestion car show door props, it should simulate the door being closed (no 'dummy' beep) while holding it open (keeping the lights on)

Thoughts? Ideas?

I'd add a switch carrying 12 volts with a diode in it. This way you can run the projectors as is, but you can also keep them on constant. Unfortunately you would probably have to snake a wire into each door, its a bit time consuming but can be done.

Pretty cool mod and a GREAT write up on it!

I've been lurking in the MOD areas of the forum trying to get ideas and this may just be one of them.

Awesome work.
Wish I had the time and patients to do something like this. Wish I knew who the vendor is that makes / installs these items. I'd rather pay the $120. LOL

They're custom made, anyone can replicate it, thus why its in the DIY section.

The OP says they cost $120 - 200 from a vendor. So, who is the vendor?

Has anyone found a good wire to use instead of the ABL to wire this box. I wanted to use the dome light that comes on in the car when the door is opened. But could never found which wire powered this in the passenger side.

I noticed you used 2 cap nuts and 2 normal nuts when fixed to the door panel. Was there a clearance issue?

I got my led lights from china for $23 shipped. I tied mine into the abl. I have read there are 2 wires behind the speaker that turn on the dome light. This is how the dome light knows the door is open. I think one wire is red with black stripe and the other is yellow. I cannot remember the colors.

Actually I did the same thing. About 23 bucks shipped and look really great. I would say same quality as the others and maybe a bit dimmer but honestly these are really for night use. I tapped into the constant power and the ground that is triggered by the door opening so it goes off as soon as the door is shut.

There are ready made alternatives out there if you search. I'm not going to go as far as post a link which would undermine the OP's DIY though. Nuff said.
