Why is the ZL1 so horrible on gas mileage?

It is obvious that if you own an M5 and a ZL1 you can easily afford the fuel so I get that isn't the issue. Sorry you are disapointed in the fuel numbers you are getting.I personally feel the fuel economy is pretty good considering the power and weight of the ZL1. I was not expecting high fuel economy when I bought mine. I actually thought it would be worse.My advice is to not bring up that info on your DIC. Outa sight outa mind! Just enjoy your cars for what they are... Absolute driving enjoyment! You do have two gorgeous rides though. Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy them both for what they are. I put in a scan gauge II and it really opens your eyes to your driving style. I am able to get 22-25 MPG on highway driving now. You'll learn a lot by watching it. Like the sweet spot for MPG is unfortunately 55MPH. Anything above and it start going down the further you go. Also shifting in to Neutral (Manual only) down hill helps also. I mounted it right above the NAV with the supplied sticky velcro. The biggest factor of course, I found out real quick is how often you put your foot down on the pedal, which is almost impossible not to WANT to do with our cars ;-)

Everyone should get one though. They measure quarter mile, 0-60 times, have all kinds of trip counters, and you can program in EVERY sensor on your vehicle from Catalyst temp to knock retard. Measures Horsepower (also very informative to finding your power bands), Total cost in gas per trip & tank, reads and clears CEL codes, even has controls on the LED backlight color (I think 36 colors). Tons of stuff. Check it out, I bought one for every vehicle thats OBDII I own:

For the exact opposite reason that the prius is good on gas... Is this a serious question? This is like asking why my suburban gets bad gas mileage. The reason for which it was made pretty much requires bad gas mileage, at least at this point in time.

What a bizarre thread. First, who owns a M5 and doesn't know how much power it has? Second, who owns both and cares about how much mileage either has? But that said, you should see my Aventador, I'll snap a picture for you as soon as one parks next to me

But since internet math is awesome: at $100k for the M5, and $60k for the ZL1, it will take 160 years, based on the averages, before you spend the $40k difference in gas in the ZL1...

So yeah, go spend $40k more to buy the slower, less powerful M5 to save $250/year in gas over the ZL1!

Oh, wait...I've got some bad news...I just did an insurance estimate ( what? I was bored ) and the M5 costs $540 more per year to insure over the ZL1.... That means you can't recoup the $40k in the M5 unless you just stop driving it. Sorry
But on the bright side, imagine your mileage if the car isn't even turned on!

you must only do 55 then. I haven't ever seen better than 18.5 on the highway ever and I do loads of road trips. im not tuned though.

I definitely don't do 55 lol. I stay around 65-75mph
