HP Tuner and The Tuning School at home course... Worth it???

Would love to get some input from everyone. I'm getting the package 3 from Livernois and the shop that I'm getting to install it suggested I buy the HP Tuner software. I was in agreement cause I would like to learn how to tune (just my car, not professionally). The mechanic (Tim) is a great guy and said I can even come to the garage when they tune it, and he will show me how to use the HP Tuner program. My question though is I also saw a web site from The Tuning School, and they have an at-home-course. Was wondering if anyone has ever taken the course and if it's worth it? Also would anyone in their opinion be comfortable tuning their own car after the at-home-course????? Thank you in advance for your thoughts!!

I had a very good mentor help me learn to tune. HPT has a pretty steep learning curve. Baby steps, grasshopper. Most become overwhelmed just getting the software configured for scanning (logging). Never saw Banish's DVD's though. HPT has many good forums with people on them that are willing to help, but not spoon feed. lol.

Yes. The program software configuration is definitely intimidating ... But I'm very intrigued. And usually a quick learner, but I'm the best student when I'm absorbing it hands on... Tim says he will help anytime which is great for him to offer, but was hoping if someone took and of the courses or had other learning tools that were better they'd share their experience ... Thanks for the information on the HPT forums!!!!

Camaro Corvette GTO G8 GM Truck performance tuner in Tampa

The school is about an hour north of Tampa. Ive been to the basic and advanced courses several times to assist with the learning process. My car is oftened used as a tuning mule for the students to learn and experiement on. I also provide oversight and experience to the students when I go up there.

The mustang dyno is brand new. The classroom and shop are clean.

Every couple months if Im traveling I find myself reading their manual. Its easy reading, and its a step by step process on how to approach calibrating your vehicle.

Tampa Tuning has hired one of their lead calibrators.

The books you recieve in the at home package and the classroom package are the same. the classroom package is 80% dyno tuning. What I like about the advanced class is when shop owners take the course and the question are more challeging with calibrating methodology mainly being the focus.

A day tuning on the dyno is much more fun than tuning at home, but the reading material is the same.

On my website, click the relationships tab, and you'll see them on there. Bob's a good person that makes learning how to tune fun.
