For those not confused enough, there is another configuration out there, where the turbocharger is driven through a gear set at low loads, and then is powered by exhaust gasses under high loads. This gives you boost at low engine speeds/loads but avoids the high drag of a supercharger at higher engine speeds and loads. These are typically used in locomotives, ships, and standby power.

Check it out here:

http://www.emdiesels.com/emdweb/prod...ochure_low.pdf

and here:

http://www.emdiesels.com/emdweb/prod...ower_index.jsp

It is an awesome design, and is the closest thing to a belt driven turbocharger I could find. Although really when it is driven by the crank it is a supercharger, and when that drive system is disengaged it is a turbocharger.

Ok, this is @#$%^&*( cool on several accounts.

1 a CTS-V running the 1/4

2 not sure I want my CTS to sound this good

3 OnStar performance

Yes a "luxury sedan" that sounds like every Camaro owner (at least here on Camaro5) would want their beast to sound like.

Well...then take that engine out of there, no "luxury" sedan should sink you into your Recaro seats with 556 screaming horses. Besides...sounding that good is a luxury afforded to few....BMW can only try....
