stripping to save weight
Is anyone else planning to strip stuff off of the car to lighten it up a little and increase performance? If so, what are you planning to strip from it? I want to do this without taking much cosmetic and aesthetic appeal from the car.

Increase performance? Are you going to be racing your Camaro professionally for money? I don't get it. 422hp is all the performance I need!!

Don't take out anything unless your gonna "go big". ...
I.E. strip out everything and put in a rollbar and some racing seats. Then get rid of the steering wheel for racing wheel. Etc.... etc. Otherwise not much in there to strip out. Unless you want to toss your AC system, back seats, door panels etc. And it will look like crap if it's done half way. |

Take out sound deadener,
install some lighter aftermarket seats, cut some holes with a holesaw in some of the inner structure behind door panels, kick panels, rear seat area, under hood area, get rid of spare tires, jacks, and tools (if any) remove heater and air conditioning parts, associated ducting and wiring, remove stereo, speakers and wiring, remove rear seats and put in a cover panel made of cardboard material or luellan board, install lighter suspension components where possible, ie control arms, track bars, etc, remove power steering and associated parts and install a manual rack, remove any covers or shields or trim which is not needed, install lighter wheels, remove any and all liners and panels and mats from trunk, remove power window assemblies and block windows in up position. |

I like that approach.
Go for all of the obvious weight reductions—carbon fiber components, light wheels—before taking stuff out of the car. I want to know how much it weighs with lighter wheels, trunk, and hood.

my friend did that in Miami on spring break... he was in in his jeep... with the doors and top off.
as for me, i'm removing the butt warmers, the leather, the wheel-mount radio controls, the extra speakers, the cargo net, the mirror heaters, and some other stuff... oh wait - they call that a 1SS. saves me the trouble

Seriously, what can you shave....300-400 lbs? Is that really worth the effort? If you want a stripped-down shoddy muscle car, just buy a Mustang. The Camaro has quality with it.

I'm working out on an elliptical everyday now for about 3 hours a day while watching TV shows so I can shed at least 20 pounds by the time the Camaro arrives..
