2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO To Do 0-60 MPH In 2.0 Seconds?!

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO To Do 0-60 MPH In 2.0 Seconds?

Quote:
The latest iteration of the Nissan GT-R can already hit 60 mph from rest in a blistering 2.7 seconds but that number is expected to drop with the arrival of a more potent GT-R NISMO model currently in the works.

Set for a reveal at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November, the GT-R NISMO is tipped to have more than 570 horsepower and be capable of setting a new production car lap record at the Nürburgring.

It is now being reported that this ‘super GT-R’ will also be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.0 seconds. Yes, you read that correctly. Just two seconds!

The information comes from a Nissan insider and was reported by Auto Express. If true, the GT-R NISMO will be the quickest-accelerating production car ever launched. The current holder of that title is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which needs 2.5 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Helping with the car’s development is none other than the Williams F1 Team, well, the team’s technology offshoot, Williams Advanced Engineering, to be more accurate. One Williams engineer also revealed to the British magazine that the GT-R still has a lot of tuning potential.

Key to the GT-R NISMO’s performance will be lighter weight and more power. We’d expect some upgrades to the car’s six-speed dual-clutch transmission would also be necessary to deliver such an astonishing acceleration time.

The car should reach showrooms next spring as a 2015 model.

2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo to hit 60 mph in 2 seconds?
Quote:
Here's your daily dose of incredulity – AutoExpress is reporting the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo will hit 60 miles per hour in two seconds. Okay. The report comes from an unnamed source that AE spoke with at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and would mean that the GT-R Nismo, a car that will likely sit below $150,000, will be able to outsprint (over short distances) a 1200-horsepower, $2.58-million Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Citing a more potent version of the GT-R's twin-turbocharged V-6 along with a healthy drop in weight, AutoExpress says that the performance is the result of the same group that helped develop the Juke Nismo, Williams Advanced Engineering. An unnamed engineer for Williams (it's not made clear if this is the same source from Goodwood) notes that there are improvements to be had "even with a car like the GT-R."

As exciting as the GT-R Nismo is going to be, we're having a hard time accepting that it will be able to hit 60 in two seconds flat, at least on street tires. What do you think?

The GT-R is already amazing car when it comes to acceleration, but this would be ridiculous! I'm a little skeptical on how they will achieve this.

Now if they said that the 2015 GT-R NISMO would have:
1) A powertrain made out of Adamantium
2) Lost about 1,300 lbs
3) Has a 700 hp increase
4) Found a way to get some street-legal racing slicks

THEN I might think it has a chance. But losing 100 or so pounds, a 30 hp bump, and street tires don't seem like it will get it.

NISSAN GT-R NISMO TO HIT 60 MPH IN 2 SECONDS FLAT
The Nissan GT-R Nismo will knock the wind out of your lungs when you launch it in full fury, achieving 60 mph in only 2 seconds
Quote:
We, at Autonet.ca, are the most ardent of track junkies - but we have to admit that 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.0 seconds flat sounds painfully fast. As in, subluxation of vertebral bones fast, or 1st gear hit to the solar plexus fast. According to reports by AutoExpress, the new Nissan GT-R Nismo, due to launch at the Tokyo motor show in November, will knock the wind out of your lungs when you launch it in full fury, achieving 60 mph in only 2 seconds. If you survive the launch unscathed it will go on to carry you to peripherally blurry speeds with just a couple more pulls of the right paddle shifter.

This type of speedy insanity can only come from Godzilla, a highly acclaimed monster in its own right. The car seems to defy physics, even with its current scurry to 60 in only 2.7 seconds. Consider that the GT-R weighs a rather hefty 1,723 kilograms (3,800 lb) and has "only" 545 horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque sent to its wheels. There are cars with better power to weight ratios that cannot even come close to the GT-R's performance, a fact that no doubt has a few competitive engineers scratching their heads.

As it currently sits on the tarmac, the Nissan GT-R can keep up with the Bugatti Veyron, or BMW S1000RR superbike - at least through its first two gears. Should the rumours prove true, a more muscle-bound Godzilla capable of 2 second 0-60 times would surely cause a few boardroom eruptions around the world. After all, the GT-R undercuts Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bugatti price tags while keeping - or exceeding - pace.

Scroll down to watch the 2013 Nissan GT-R do the 0-60 deed.

The GT-R also sprinted from a $60,000 MSRP to $110,000 in 3 years flat.

And the NISMO label will probably add another $20,000 on top of that.

And it will still be more car for the money than anything else in the price range.

What about hearing and traction control programming? Power is alot but not everything.

Guess Nissan isn't happy just cracking into the "2 Second Club", they want to own it!
