I guess that means that team L99 wins since team LS3 can't get past tech.

SFI stated that a SFI 4.1 rated blanket will protect us from a clutch exploding, but the way the 4.1 spec reads, it will not pass inspection.
There are no manufacturers that make a blanket that is labeled to meet the 6.3 rating that we need for superchargers or nitrous.
There is a SFI 9.1 rating for a bellhousing blanket that will pass NHRA Tech inspections, BUT SFI said that there are currently no manufacturers that have even submitted a product to them to be tested to that spec.
When I talked to NHRA, they will not budge. Even though they admit that a 4.1 rated blanked will do the job, it is written for automatic transmissions and not for bellhousings. So technically it won't pass. UNLESS we happen to find an inspector that uses common sense instead of the letter of how the rule is written.

So, if we want a blanket to use and not have to buy a whole transmission. We need to find a manufacturer that will submit their blanket to SFI to get tested and labeled for the 9.1 spec. But that takes time and probably won't happen during this race season.

It will really be interesting to see what alot of the guys that show up at Camaro5fest with sub 11.49 cars do to get past Firebird's Tech inspection. They won't be at some Ma and Pa track that lets them slide.
Why didn't this come up at C5fest. last year? I'm sure there were plenty of sub 11.5 LS3's...

Don,

Let me know if you are still planning to order the SFI 4.1 blanket. My legs are still interested even if it won't pass inspection!

Doesnt look like any LS3s will be breaking the 11.49 second barrier either safely of course....Matter of fact, Im pretty sure I can take Larry RIGHT NOW. I just have to point out the lack of safety equipment on his car, he gets disqualified, I win!!

All that money spend to go fast and you still lose to the A6's! :happy anim:

On a serious note, I would sure like to know how they got away with it last year at C5F I and how everyone who is running under 11.49 is going to get away with it this year. There are many cars that are running that fast going to race at C5F II. How are they doing it???? Kinda makes you say....MMMMMMMMmmmmmm

Looking over the web site it seems that most have gone with upgraded T56 transmissions and dumped the 6060 entirely. T56 does have a bellhousing available. Rockwell has several set ups including Drag racing builds for 1200 hp versions and several road racing versions as well.

The guy at Tremec totally understood the issue and was equally frustrated that nobody has made a sfi approved bellhousing because it makes this an unsupported performance tranny.
It's almost funny that a company as big as Tremec would be frustrated that nobody makes one. You'd think they would think wow... "captive audience" and capitalize on it. They obviously have the know how.

I still say call Browell Bellhousing. 765-447-2292 They are the company that would help me out to get a bellhousing to match my block/tranny combo last year when others(including Lakewood) were not that interested in making what I needed. They had it to me in 3-4 weeks normal production once we got all the dimensions verified.

If their is no bellhousing made for the 6060 what are they running that they are passing inspections?
A Black blanket from RCI ..... not sure what the SFI# is though. I'm assuming 4.1 but haven't got an answer back yet. Although, one should show up at Laramie GM on Friday for $255 - how's that for blind ordering. LPE has ran at numerous NHRA tracks and no problems - not quite sure how everyone's getting away with it. I figure worse case is I sell it to Kirky when he gets a Supercharger or high stall torque converter, since it's definitely legal for catching auto guts. While running under 11.5 sounds fun, my goal is to run close to it and not deal with all the extra stuff. On the other hand, I'd jump all over an SFI bell housing at time of install. But as usual, the "Drool Factor" always keeps kicking in! Keeping my legs might be nice too .... I'll let everyone know how it works. (blanket install, not legs)

Then.... Larry's got my head spinning about the T-56 transmission. It always seems to take longer to get things to market than the manufacturers say though. I do think it's great that we're all looking out for each other's interests. Looks like 5 or 6 people all researching...

$5 solution...Checker Auto can of red spray paint--paint the bellhousing and when the tech sees the red bellhousing, just nod your head when he asks if that's a Lakewood. He-he

love the idea of red paint Rob...lol

KK I got my call back from George Kreppein at Rockland Standard Gears
http://rsgear.com/about-us/the-transfer-case-guru.aspx

He heads up the division that builds the race tranny's
http://rsgear.com/products/transmiss...smissions.aspx

At present he is in the process of building a race strength TR6060 with a sfi rated housing. He is building it for Hennessey for a special car. He explained the reason no one is touching the TR 6060 is due to the location of the oil pump for the tranny. It is in such a location that it prohibits a bellhousing to fit or be used. This special tranny will be made at Tremec and built by his team. Cost is going to be around 4800 but it will meet all standards..bolt right in. be bullet proof and also be specific gear ratios for maximum racing and a balanced driving. Different gear sets if road racing is the goal. Polished gears, carbon fiber syncros, billet output shaft, sfi 6.3 certified. And a warranty to boot.

18002271523 rockland standard gear.

He will be sending me the specs and I will post them up when available.

Larry
