Another Metra Install

Hi all,
Just wanted to let everyone know I got the Metra Kit installed this week. Everything works great! Thanks to Brandon at the local Best Buy! Those guys did a great job and were very professional. This was the first 5th Gen for them so they took there time and wired everything in like pro's. They even were able to fit the Pioneer Ipod connector into the normal usb connector so that it looks factory. USB and XM antenna went under the front cowl right below the windshield wipers.. We're waiting on a extension cable for the xm so that I can use the factory antenna. The only thing they were not able to do was use the factory mic. Hopefully in time someone will figure out how to tap into the harness so I can eliminate the external mic....
All the HVAC controls and SWC's work great.. The only minor glitch there is the built in cell phone will not anwere using the SWC, I have to answer using the phone button on the mirror. Not a problem as I mostly use the BT phone anyway. I had to order a special ipod cable for the pioneer so I don't know yet how well all that will work but I don't see that it will be a problem as the head unit recognizes the ipod and everything there just isn't any sound.
The metra kit could fit the dash a little better but i'm not disappointed.
Here's a pic

Looks really good. I love that metra look. If you don't mind, could you explain a little more how its set up? It seems like you're saying the old USB port and the bluetooth phone mic don't work with the new pioneer. Is that correct? Also, does the stock XM receiver not work with it? I've tinkered with my sirius receiver and the connectors can be removed (at least for the antenna). I was curious if the XM receiver is the same way. Just kind of wondering what from the stock system still works and what doesn't. Again, looks really nice!

There was no connection for the factory mic to the pioneer head unit so we had to use the mic that came with the unit. The factory mic still works for the onstar and the built in cell phone. The factory XM is built into the factory head unit so I had to buy the ipbus XM unit from Pioneer. It's mounted under the seat. The factory USB may have worked with the Pioneer but I don't know. It came with it's own USB hookup for the iPod so I used it. Brandon and his coworker (I think his name is John) was able to use the factory connector inside the console with Pioneer connector.
As for what works, everything works. The only difference is having to use the onstar button on the mirror to answer the car cell phone..

Hope that helps.

they work for the phone running through the bluetooth in the pioneer head unit. I'm going to call metra and see if the programing could be done so it works for both.. If I don't have my cell phone connected to the bluetooth, I can use the SWC to place a call using the onstar phone.. I just can't answer the onstar phone using the SWC, I have to use the button in the mirror.

They are working on that issue with a firmware update. I will update all once I find out more info.

Nice Install.

I have an installer doing some background work before installing my kit. He believes that I need this antenna adaptor. Is this correct?

Antenna Adapter, (Metra Part # 40-EU10).

Yup. You'll need one of those..
Let me know how the install goes and if you figure out how how to use the factory mic (if you need it). What head unit are you putting in?

Good deal.. that's what I put in. Let me know how you like it. I haven't had the time to play with mine much. Won't be able to for a couple more weeks. Let me know where you end up mounting the antennas and the mic..
