Interesting indeed.

Obviously Ford wasn't paying any attention to gearing for autocross (never mind what Sammy had done with the S197's over several years, and his adamant position that 3.31's were what you wanted, not 3.73's or even 3.55's), nor was Chevy either with transmission gearing that's taller than optimum for this activity.

What amazes me the most was that the 2007 Shelby's times were as close to the rest as they were, and in spite of a claimed differential handicap.

Which gearing ratio do you have Norm?

3.55

I should mention that Sam's recommendation of 3.31's was for cars with the MT-82 transmission (in which 2nd is 2.43:1, vs 2.00:1 in my car's and the 2007 Shelby GT's TR3650). The overall 2nd gear difference between my car and a GT/PP with its 3.73's is nearly a whole gear spacing, at about 1.28:1.
