Dashboard - Hard plastic feel solution?

As many as you know there has been a lot of comments from magazines about the cheap plastic feel on the dash top as well as the door panels.

Here are solutions I have been thinking of:

1. Cover dash top in Alcantara, or even matching leather
or
2. Remove dash top and door panels and back them with a product like http://www.fatmat.com/ to quiet it down?

or both?

Does anyone have any other ideas?

It's not the noise that the reviews are saying. It's the hollow plastic sound from the dash when you 'tap' it with your finger. The insulation from underneath the dashtop will stop the hollow sound.

My 2007 expedition has the same issue.

It's not like your gonna be touching your interior materials all the time..... The only time. i see when you would touch the interior plastic is when you're checking a camaro out at a dealer for the first time
or if your cleaning the dust or something off the interior

If the hard plastic annoys you that much then i guess you could do that to your interior

IMO: I couldn't care less about how hard the interior plastic is

True, however my door panels in my expedition are hard plastic, and resting my elbow on top when the window down kills. Called Unique auto (as in "unique whips" and will was very nice on the phone. To do all 4 doors, headliner, a,b & c pillars in leather and alcantra was 6k. So I figure 4k to do the camaro. Might put off supcharger for 6months to do the alcantra headliner and A,B,C pillars. Do the dash top in black leather

Shag - would be wild
Might as well do a black light inside instead of ABL

I agree. Best solution about hard dash is to stop caressing it like it's your spouse...

Unless I'm cleaning it, I never touch it.

Even on the door window sill isn't a problem imo because when my arm sits there, I don't have my elbow directly on it. I'm resting my arm on it either before or after the actual elbow. Though the door window sill really should be a little nicer (since you WILL be touching it a bit more than the dash) than the dash material.

Just don't make it fabric that show's wear spots like my '02 Camaro had. There was a wear spot where I rested my arm all the time...

We'll see -
But an Alcantara headliner and a,b,c pillars would be sweet imho.

I'll probably just not tap on the dash alot.

Coating it is something I thought about doing though.
