I can see it now...
"Well, it was producing roughly the heat output of a small star..." - Xanthos P.S. - Right now, if I do end up going forced induction, it'll either be an STS turbo kit or a Vortech kit. I don't really trust the D3 kit. Let the car dealer sell cars.

Remotely mounted...unless you shove the turbo down the manifold, they're all technically external.
And those little guys put out some impressive numbers. It's just...different. |

Semantics. Technically they are external of the engine bay area. They have made big power, but they aren't very streetable (IMO) because of all the things that can go wrong with that mounting location.

Once again - I agree that we're arguing semantics.
Plus, there really isn't anything that could convince me to go F.I. unless it was able to guarantee that I wouldn't have to modify my current intake/exhaust plans. As it stands, once cams are out (I think more lift would REALLY wake this engine up and give it a ton more torque) I think 400 or even 425-450 flywheel horses will be easily attainable on this engine with no boost. And keeping it emissions legal at that. - Xanthos

thats normally only true on custom setups. most people who will be going f/i will be going with aftermarket kits designed specifically for this motor. then again, with a remote mount turbo, you can pick whatever size you want.

Street trash (paper, rocks, dirt) getting trapped around the turbo, maybe getting jammed in the impeller, driving through a puddle of water that splashes on the housing (cool water+super heated metal=no bueno), going over a bump or steepish incline (especially if you lower the vehicle which is common) and tearing off an oil line or hose, vandalism/thievery etc. There's just too many variables you expose it to when its just sitting under the car.
Since we were talking about STS turbos, that is a fully custom setup. A true kit for the car I wouldn't be too concerned with.
