Why is car buying such a hassle? Tesla's model has to be adopted.

This is going to be my first car I purchase for myself, new. 26 and can afford it. But the biggest thing I'm dreading is going into a dealer and handling all the haggle and stuff.

Any advice/tips for a new time buyer? I'm in sales myself, but never death with dealers and their "hidden" fee's..

Deal with the Internet sales department. Haggle with several of them via email. You can get almost everything done before you go in. Much lower pressure and generally prices.

trucar.com is a great resource. Also, agree with the internet sales manager.

Have all your prices (Invoice & MSRP) ready and printed when you go. You set the stage, not them. YOU tell them what you're willing to pay and not them trying to sell you.
If they agree, have them sign the paper you brought in. If they don't leave.

If YOU know your stuff and your prices, they won't BS you...

I bought my first car (1982 Datsun 280ZX) NEW, $6000 below the sticker price. I said I'm here to BUY, here is my check book and I'll pay $X amount for that two tone 280ZX. If yes, let's start the paperwork, if not, thank you...

Best time to buy, is end of month, so they don't have to make a monthly payment on that car.

If you're buy 2016, wait for Q1 to buy, not now. You don't have much leverage. Once they get a lot of inventory, they'll beg you. It's actually fun... :-)

Give Becky a call, she is the BEST Camaro dealer in the country (IMO) No hassle, no extras, more informed than anyone els, gives fair prices with no haggling. Doesn't matter where in the contry you live chevy will have it shipped to a dealer near you. This will be my 6 new car purches from dealers and dealing with Becky has been the most pleasant car buying experience I ever had. Up untill now I've always dreaded having to deal with car salesmen, it always felt like going into a tank full of sharks, trained professionals out to get you to spend as much as humanly possible for a product thats already one of the most expensive things you'll buy. Becky on the other hand makes you feel like shes their to help you not con you. Thats my 2 cents anyway!!

GM previously tried the Tesla method (as did Ford) in the 1990s, with manufacturer owned stores.

It didn't work. It proved far too costly to rent the necessary space, pay for service bays and staff, etc etc. Tesla is also losing over 4K per car.

Be careful what you wish for.

As stated, call Becky, tell her your situation and go from there. Even if you don't buy from her you will be better prepared and if you do you will see what all those referring you to her mean.

Always the easiest choice. Becky has a 5 star rep across a few forums.

Tesla may be loosing some money on the cars , but that has nothing to do with the plan on having or not having dealers

Use this dealerships price point as negotiating help showing that they can take 2500 off MSRP on a 2SS. Then even if you get close to that you have a pretty good deal.

Not sure what you mean???

Tesla has dealerships and wants more. He just wants them company owned.

Everyone has tried dealer owned stores as well as fixed no haggle pricing. For some reason both have failed.

Keep in mind if GM and Ford and Fiat own company stores........the UAW likely won't be far behind.

I am in the same boat as you. This will be my first car I will be buying on my own. The internet is you best resource. You will find out pretty much everything you need to know about the vehicle as well as the car buying process. I've been shopping around for this Camaro the past week or so and majority of dealers I spoke with were shocked that I knew so much about the pricing, and the ordering process thanks to the lovely folks on this forum ( ). Just do your research, never buy the first vehicle you see, and always come pre-approved. Dealers are never the best option for financing unless they give you 0%.

Many state laws forbid it, as they do sales on Sunday, both need to disappear IMO. It is though, a more complicated question to answer - how do manufacturer's handle things like trade ins and the used car market. How do you handle vehicle maintenance, warranty claims etc.
I think right now both parties benefit from the model and until that changes and we get push back from the manufacturers against the indirect sales model, it won't change.

Yes, Tesla is creating a new sales model, but what is their market share .0001%? I mean the scale is way different between Tesla and GM.
