Arrow K&N's Short Ram vs. Cold Air System

So K&N has 3 systems: short ram, cold air, and complete cold air. The shot ram system goes exactly where the stock CAI is. The cold air system goes down and is placed next to the wheel. The complete cold air system is both, I think.
So how much is the difference in HP gain between the short ram and the cold air?

This is the K&N short ram system...

First I have heard of this. The shortram is the only one I know of.

It is True that K&N has three different styles of their Typhoon Intakes, but unfortunately, they do not make all 3 styles available for every intake available. The Short Ram and the Complete Cold Air were typically made for the Import Cars.

For the 2010 Camaro the only Style currently available is the Cold Air Design.

These make incredible power and are very popular. Since its Release Date K&N has already sold out of their inventory. STILLEN anticipated this rush and placed a significant stock order, and are currently down to our last couple of sets.

let me know if you are interested in one.

Don't know of different version as others have said, but one of our local users saw 16 rwhp increase with the K&N alone

I think you got it mixed up. The short ram is the one that goes in the place of the stock CAI and the cold air is the one that goes next to the wheel.

SamSS,
You are correct the Camaro intake is listed as a Short Ram in the Details, but is also Listed as "Typhoon Kit (CA)" under Product Type, which "(CA)" is Listed as a Cold Air (this is where I made my mistake).

69-4519TP 2010 CHEVROLET Camaro 6.2L V8 F/I - AllAutomotiveTyphoon Kit (CA)

18.12 HP @ 5200 RPM

Typhoon intakes come in one of three designs; cold air intakes (CA), short ram intakes (SR), or complete cold air (CCA) intakes which can be configured as either a cold air intake or a short ram intake.

18/18 @ the rear wheels, I'm really on the fence as to which CAI to buy.

Your not going to pickup 18hp/18 tq. Look at the Jannetty testing thread:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...annetty&page=2

More specifically look at the chart that is made of all the cold air intakes on there. NONE of them made 18/18. KN design is no different. Avg. powered gain was 8.8hp peak. Just some info to consider.

True, K&N has not been Ted checked yet, but look at fast lane, 15.9 so 10 plus I'd honestly be expecting to get. I haven't bought a CAI yet because most are over 300 and as soon as the new wears off they will be 200. I can live without 10 HP till prices come down unless a really good CAI comes out that gives you 20.

I think that a CAI can be limited simply because of where its located and if there is a bit of air in surplus in that area. I think where the stock airbox is with a lil extra air from a vent from the front of the car somewhere. Thats what im gonna work on anyway, The isolation area where the filter sits.
