The new ECU may need some tuning to be able to talk to the rest of the electronics in the car. And I'd bet that the V6 and V8 use the same core ECU, just that they're programmed differently. You'd also have to research to see of parts like the underhood fuse boxes are the same as well as the cradle.

I think the most difficult part would be sourcing the needed parts at a reasonable price. As long as the mechanical and technical aspects are understandable to you, I don't see this type of swap to be rocket science. And as the years go by, it will probably become a common thing to do.
I've been researching this. If I had ordered my ABM new, it would have been with the LS3.
Having said that, the easiest route that i see for me to get a V8 into my factory V6 is to buy a complete car from CoPart and do the entire swap.
Engine, Drivetrain, suspension, electronics. And from what I have been following on copart, a SS with a good drivetrain can be had for under $6000.
And as far as trade in value and insurance value, none of that matters to me. I will only trade my ABM for another ABM, which means I will probably teach my 7 year old how to drive in her when he gets to that age.

I will be swapping to a V8 when the time comes... I bought this car to mod my way and trading the car in is not an option. I have read too many post that individuals have traded their camaro for something else or just upgraded.

Hey Dru, can you post pictures of the swap? I've been thinking of doing this as well. I have a friend that has one with the transmission and he wants to sell it to me.

Wouldn't even a twin turbo setup on the V6 be cheaper ? and faster than a stock V8 ?

Almost anything is possible. Why bother though? And, if you have a spare engine sitting around, why not pick up a good classic and install the engine there? I guess I'm spoiled, I could not live with just one or two cars. I'd drop the time and money into something additional, myself.

As a matter of maintenance, it makes more sense to do a full drivetrain swap than to just trade the car for a higher model, especially if the owner plans to keep the car for the very long haul.

Someone is currently in the process of going from an lfx to v8. He bought a used SS and is in the process of having stuff swapped out and such. Search in the lfx section I think it's in there
