Zr1 plugs good or bad
Want to put some zr1 plugs in my build boosted auto making 900 flywheel power on e85 I just glanced through a thread started by supercharged ss that he just blew his second engine caused by the zr1 plug has anyone else had problems with them or what do you recommend.

Projected tip + n2o not good. They may work for your application but I prefer something like a tr7ix, 8ix, etc.

Switched out the cold, non-projected tip plugs in my car for the ZR1 plugs and it made a HUGE difference in low speed drivability. Similar power to you, but regular pump gas. With that being said, I don't think I will turn on the nitrous with them in there.

Is this a serious question? If so they are not a good idea unless you or bolt on or cam only. Use the proper plugs for boost/nitrous unless you want carnage.

So the zr1 plugs are no good for boost even though they come in the zr1 that's boosted what would you recommend then, this was a thread to get input to see if anyone had problems with them if so what they went with.

Correct. Anyone with these plugs in their zr1 should remove their supercharger immediately.

I'm running ZR1 plugs on 9lb of boost and so are a ton of others. IMO if your going to run less than 10lb if boost they will be fine.

My engine gets so pissed that these plugs were used in it that it self destructs!! OP, the ZR1 plugs weren't the sole cause of a popped motors in 2 months. Looks like there are a few reasons but I don't think the ZR1 plugs were helping. I have found nothing, researching spark plugs with boost/nitrous, that remotely says use that plug. Everything points the opposite way. I'm going to believe the major companies like NGK, NOS, etc, when it comes to using the proper plug. |

FYI the ls7 Uses the same plug as a Zr1. It's not a plug designed specially for a boosted application.

Wassup Sammay!
OP that kind of power you need to run much colder plugs.

Well, gm has to run a hot plug to pass the government emission tests. They work fine on boosted motors but when you push the motor more the plugs can be an issue. When we do any work to the zl1/zr1 cars the plugs get changed. We notice less knock retard and a bit more power from the tuning we can do with colder plugs.
