Road Rash / Chipping on side of 2015 SS

Hey guys,

I have noticed a lot of chipping and road rash right around the gills on the side of the car, both sides, right in front of the rear tires. What is causing this? and How do i fix this issue, because it is slowly making my car look bad....

When my car was new I put the OEM ZL1 Stealth Splash shields on the front and rear tires and XPEL film in all potential impact areas including the gill area.
This strategy has done an excellent job in keeping it looking new and eliminating pitting.
Pictures of front and back follow.

Nice!

I had rear mud flaps on My 2008 Mustang. I was the only Mustang I knew of in 7.5 yrs with them. I had them installed at dealer b4 picking up too.

I don't have them on my Camaro because it doesn't go on the freeways.

I have the husky flaps. They are a little bit bulky but for a daily driver they have done a great job of protecting my sides. No visable damage after 4 years and 30k miles.

I have the Husky as well, very durable. I had the RDP Stealth years ago, but they only lasted 2 years.

I appreciate all the feedback! I have heard of the stealth protection film, but I think it may be too late for me..... Im not very happy with how it looks, especially when I have the Ashen Grey paint color, (which makes it very noticeable)

Any ideas on fixing it?

Very common with the 5th gens; Almost all of them go thru this. You will need any product along the lines of a plastic paint protector such as 3m. The chipping/sanding is caused by debris from the front tires, where the flaring of the rear fenders catch all of the debris and it slowly sands away the paint. ZL1s, 1LEs and Z28 are especially prone to this paint damage because of the tires.

get the paint fixed up. wait the month needed for it to fully set and cure then get the clear wrap put on. Best investment possible plus you dont have mud flaps on your car

I had a complete respray done and then put very small flat flaps on the front. So far so good. Another reason to stick with the stock SS tire sizes. 245 in front and 275 in back is plenty of rubber.

I had the husky flaps, but I wanted more protection. So, I used them as templates to make longer ones out of ABS stock. On the back, I just got the stock ZL1 rear flares. With the stock 18's, the sides stay perfectly clean now.
